Worktop skirting board

  • Debris in the form of small crumbs or residues from spilled liquid can accumulate between the countertop and the work wall. To do this, a decorative skirting board is installed at the junction, which simultaneously performs a sealing function, preventing the accumulation of the above waste. Such a profile can always be matched by color and material - they are made of both polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and aluminum.

  • When assembling a set, the length of the chipboard countertop for the kitchen is usually not enough, therefore, various connecting strips are used for joining without gaps. In the case when the end of the table does not rest against the wall, but moves towards the room, then the end plate is used for this case.

Countertops manufacturing technology

The plastic is glued to the chipboard

  • The manufacture of kitchen countertops from chipboard 28 mm or more takes place by gluing according to the principle of a sandwich. The board is cleaned with isopropyl alcohol before gluing, and then, using a spatula or roller, the glue is evenly applied to the board. Suitable for gluing are all polycetate adhesives D-3 and D-4, the consumption of which is from 150 to 200 g / m22but in any case the manufacturer's instructions for orientation are necessary.
  • Plates are cold pressed at a pressure of 50 to 80 N / cm2 and a temperature not exceeding 30⁰C. The panel is under the press for 8 minutes, and then it is stored in stacks, where it is under pressure of 1500 N / m2 dry within 24 hours.

In the worktop, recesses are cut for the tie elements

  • The dimensions of the chipboard kitchen countertops are not always standard and they can be connected with an invisible seam. The panel is first milled according to a certain template, and then recesses for the tightening elements and slots for lamellas are cut into it (see. photo above). A groove for a plug-in spike is selected from above, 12 mm deep and the butt is cleaned with sandpaper.

The end is smeared with polyvinyl acetate glue

  • The treated end is wiped with isopropyl alcohol and dried, and then the sample is coated with two-component acrylic glue and a spike is inserted into it. The surface of the end face is treated with polyvinyl acetate glue and inserted into the sockets of the lamellae. The same operation is done with the plate, which will be docked.

Docking plates

  • Both countertops are aligned and moved so that the glue comes out of the seam, and a clamp is used to secure the tightness (the video about the countertops is located on the page). Air bubbles will form in the protruding glue - they should be pierced with some sharp object (chip, match, wire).

Grinding the seam

  • After 30-45 minutes, the glue hardens and can be sanded. After such an operation, the corner laminated chipboard countertops for the kitchen look like a single whole (see. additional article Corner countertops for the kitchen: using the space to the maximum)

Council. When buying a kitchen set, the countertops can be long, and the kitchen will be cramped, especially if there is still a corner with a table there. In this case, you can simply cut them yourself.

For this, it is best to use a stationary or manual electric circulator, after which the cut is smooth and accurate. The most important thing in this situation is to accurately measure each of the panels so that their lengths coincide with each other.

Conclusion

Laminated chipboard worktops are acceptable in the most sophisticated interiors, because their coating is able to imitate any natural and artificial finishing materials. In addition, the reasonable price for such panels allows them to be ranked as consumer goods.
