What should be the kitchen furniture? It would seem that the question is simple, and it is not difficult to answer it. Each person would note the beauty, functionality and reliability. That's right, you can't argue with that.
But you know what is usually overlooked? For fittings. Of course, we select external fittings, that is, handles, according to the design of the entire kitchen set, it is necessary that everything be in harmony. But do not forget about other types.
Lifting door
A huge number of different elements are hidden outside the facade. For example:
- Gas lifts for the kitchen;
- Guides;
- Hinges;
- Shelf holders;
- And other systems.
Without this, it is impossible to think that the kitchen furniture will last a long time, and the functionality will meet all the necessary standards and requirements.
That is, the need for high-quality fittings is an obvious fact. And if the price of the entire headset is compared, then twenty-five percent of the cost falls precisely on the cost of the fittings. Unbelievable, but it is a fact.
Lifting mechanisms for opening doors
Gas lift for kitchen units
What is a kitchen gas lift? This lifting device belongs to the category "Brackets".
It is designed to open the upper tier of cabinets, the doors of which open upwards.
And although this opening option is not the main one, many manufacturing companies have recently begun to give preference to it.
This mechanism has many advantages, but it is worth noting the main ones:
- Self-adjusting smooth running;
- Reliable fixation in the open position;
- Two types of opening - step-by-step (frictional) and automatic;
- The fixing of gas lifts corresponds to the material from which the furniture itself is made. That is, from chipboard or aluminum.
- The door can be opened without a handle. To do this, you just need to press on the surface of the door, and it will open itself.

Gas elevator design
Like any mechanism, a gas lift consists of several parts.
- The body, which is a sealed cylinder.
- Valve.
- Sleeve.
- A stem that moves freely inside the body.
- Piston.
- Bypass valve.
- Friction type bearing.
- Stuffing box.
- Anther.
- Gland packing, which creates a tightness of the structure.
- Piston seal.
Nitrogen is pumped into the housing, it is the working medium.
High-quality gas lift
Note! The gas lift is a completely sealed structure. Nitrogen is pumped into the cylinder during the manufacturing process. Therefore, this device cannot be repaired.
Don't even try to open it yourself. The entire internal system is under pressure.
Depressurization, which is opposed by glands and packings, can lead to the fact that the gas lift simply ceases to perform its functions.
Besides, you are not an expert, and the slightest penetration inside can cost you trouble.
Note! A hermetically sealed system can explode in your hands. So don't try to open it. It can cost you and those around you dearly. The minimum is minor injuries and scratches, the maximum is scary to talk about.
The working indicator, which is the main one, is the compression force. Therefore, when choosing a gas lift, it is necessary to accurately determine the weight of the door, which it will open and hold.
Accordingly, the heavier the door, the more effort is required to hold it. This means that the holding force must be greater.
There is one more selection criterion, it depends on the length of the mechanism itself. Of course, this in turn depends on the dimensions of the door being held.
Therefore, the correspondence between the length of the gas lift and the thickness of its working cylinder is taken into account here. The longer the device, the thicker it is.
Surprisingly, this mechanism works in automatic mode (one of the types). When the door is opened, it works after a certain time and starts the closing procedure.
This is convenient in two cases:
- When the mistress is forgetful.
- When the cabinets are hung very high, where the height of the person and the height of the furniture element do not correspond.
How to determine the force required to open the door
Manufacturers currently offer mechanisms that can withstand loads of 60, 80, 100, 120 and 140 Newtons.
It is generally believed that ten newtons of force will be sufficient for a load of one kilogram. Therefore, it is not difficult to calculate the load and choose the gas lift based on it. By the way, in
You can find a calculator on the Internet that will accurately determine the ratio of load and holding force.

How to install and fix a gas lift
Gaslift complete set
In a huge number of types of gas lifts, which differ in their parameters and technical characteristics, there are two budget options that are most often used for kitchen furniture.
They are fastened using hinges on the fastener head:
- Spring staple;
- Plate.
The first option is the simplest. There is no need to perform any complex manipulations with tools and parts. Simply slide the mechanism onto the head of the fastener with a simple push.
The plate is also simple. But sometimes there were details in which the ends of the plate were bent more than was necessary.
Therefore, it was impossible to fix the head of the fastener in the hinge; it simply did not fit into the hole. There is only one way out - to consider the gas lift as defective and not to use it.
Installation diagram
The size of the door opening directly corresponds to the rules for installing a gas lift (see. photo above). That is, there are corresponding installation dimensions for a certain opening angle.
On this page of the site, we offer you a video that shows options for installing the mechanism with dimensional indicators. Let this be an instruction for use.
Conclusion on the topic
There is no doubt that gas lifts are by far the most convenient mechanism for opening kitchen furniture doors.
And if you decide to install them yourself, then follow the video instructions and sections of this article. Good luck to you.
