The Russian stove in the kitchen, which remained in the last century, is now experiencing an extraordinary boom of its revival! And this is not surprising, because it has a lot of advantages - from exclusive design to numerous irreplaceable functions in everyday life. Therefore, we decided that it deserves a separate article.

Features:

The Russian stove in the interior of the kitchen creates coziness throughout the house, and besides, its use is much more economical than using gas. Of course, she requires more self-care, but this is compensated by her unique advantages and capabilities. But before we look at them, let's talk about the design features.

Modern brick ovens for the kitchen can be of the following types:

  1. Heating;
  2. Cooking;
  3. Combined (heating and cooking).

Combination ovens are designed for home heating, cooking, bread baking and water heating. The cooking chamber in such stoves, as a rule, is located at the back of the structure and has a gas threshold - a wall between the mouth and the cooking chamber. Due to this, the fuel raw material is retained longer under the roof and burns more densely.

There are usually two smoke dampers in the stove, the obligatory presence of a hog, which is also laid out of bricks in the attic. The basis of the entire structure is - guardians. In addition, today it is not uncommon for a kitchen stove with an oven, hob, fireplace, numerous niches and shelves for storing kitchen utensils. Yes, you yourself can see everything by looking at the photo below.

Using

Even in the old days they said: "The stove is like a mother to us" - without it it was impossible to imagine life in the village. It should be noted that to this day, in many dilapidated houses, she remained standing to delight her with her comfort and soft warmth. Do you need a stove in a country or country house? Today, almost everyone has gas stoves and ultra-modern heaters, but even despite this, the Russian stove remains a unique and irreplaceable element in the house. To such an oven perfect wooden shelves for the kitchen.

Luxurious finish!

  • Cooking food. Boil, fry, steam, "simmer", bake, dry berries and mushrooms - everything is possible here! Moreover, the dishes are simply deliciously tasty and, moreover, healthy. The main thing is to stock up on suitable utensils, a poker for mixing coals and grabs.
  • Heating. A wood-burning stove for the kitchen heats up the whole house evenly, accumulating heat and giving it away gradually, over a fairly long time. Unlike other types of stoves, a wood burning stove emits a mild heat, which creates a particularly pleasant climate in the house. This can be explained by the fact that brickwork does not heat up to very high temperatures, like steel or cast iron surfaces. You can snuggle up to a brick structure after a winter walk and quickly warm up.
  • Treatment. A brick oven can not only feed and warm, but also heal. As you know, the heat coming from the brick has healing properties, which are excellent for joint pain and colds. That is why in the past, people loved to warm up and sleep on the stoves, from small to old. By the way, today you can order or fold a stove with a stove bench with your own hands.
  • Other positive aspects. Wood heating is reliable, cheap and simple. A modern wood-fired kitchen stove takes up little space, consumes little firewood and, if used carefully, can last 20-30 years. In addition, such a Russian work will certainly become a decoration and pride for the whole house!

Accommodation

As mentioned earlier, brick ovens can be heating, heating and cooking and combined. Therefore, the location for the location of such a structure is selected based on its purpose.

  • It is best to place the heating stove in the middle of the room - so each of its walls will give off heat, which in the best way warms up the room. And if the structure is adjacent to the street on one or two sides, then its efficiency will significantly decrease.
  • The combination oven is, of course, better placed in the kitchen.

Advice! Before starting the capital masonry, it would be good to build some kind of stove layout, or, more simply, to practice. Then there will be masonry skills, and the mistakes made can be seen.

Masonry

In this article, we will not describe all the nuances of this laborious, individual, but very interesting process. Let's consider only the general features during installation.

So, a little instruction:

  • The distance between the roof slabs and the chimney must not be less than 15 cm. After this aspect has been taken into account, it is necessary to mark the place for the stove foundation. It is better to make it a little larger than the rest of the structure.

Important! The foundation must be waterproofed.

  • Masonry can be very different: for example, with empty seams, or undercut masonry.
  • The brick is laid depending on the desired wall thickness. They can be laid out as one brick, or in half or ¾.
  • For the construction of the structure, it is recommended to choose a special stove brick (red brick or solid brick). Under no pretext can you use bricks from dismantled buildings, expanded clay blocks and slot bricks!

  • Laying begins with the first row, which is laid without mortar. At this stage, the bricks are aligned, the front wall and the location of each door are determined. Then the brick is already "planted" on the mortar.
  • During the installation process, you need to constantly monitor the correctness of the masonry. It should go strictly vertically. Particular attention should be paid to the corners - all the rest of the work depends on the literacy of their calculations.

Reference! Old skillful craftsmen use twine as a vertical reference point in the masonry process - in their opinion, this is the most convenient way not to make a mistake.

  • Then, depending on the selected design model, places for the combustion chamber, blower and ash pan are indicated. It should be noted that usually the blower is placed after the third row of masonry, and after another row - the ash pan. And only then the firebox is installed. But the laying of the furnace roof begins above the firebox, after the second row of bricks.
  • When installing the chimney, it is necessary to provide for a special valve, which must be adjusted without difficulty.

Finishing

When the oven heats up, the brick and the finishing material expand. But the main problem is that they expand by different amounts. Why it happens? First of all, due to the difference in the coefficients of thermal expansion of these two materials. Secondly, due to the inertia of heating the furnace walls - that is, at the moment when the finishing layer is still quite cold, the brick is already actively expanding. Therefore, if the brick is tightly and even tightly in contact with the finishing layer, then the deformation of the second cannot be avoided. There have been cases when tiles broke in two when using very strong solutions. So keep that in mind.

Well, of all the existing types of finishes, we would like to highlight the following:

  • The cheapest type of decoration for wood-fired kitchen stoves is a hut (roughly applied hand plaster with painting or whitewash). There may be small cracks on such decorative finishes, but they are only of a superficial "temporary" character and do not cause any problems. You can ignore this at all. And in a modern kitchen, this finish can be a real highlight, reminiscent of the good old days.

  • Tiles are another design option for the front surface of the structure. These ceramic products are attached to the brickwork with anchors. They can be just white, painted or have a different relief surface. Perhaps tiles are the most expensive type of stove decoration today (there are even sets of tiles, the price of which is several times higher than the cost of the stove itself). The kitchen couch will fit perfectly into the interior with a Russian stove.

  • Beautiful brick - it does not withstand direct flame, but it is very suitable as a decoration. As a matter of fact, there is no finishing layer here at all, which means there is simply nothing to fall off!

  • Wood-burning stoves for the kitchen can be finished with other materials: tiles, wallpaper on plaster, stone tiles. But in our opinion, all these options are impractical.
  • Separately, it must be said about the modern solution to this issue - a separate frame structure indented from the furnace. Thus, around any stove, you can build a metal frame with an indent for convection, and then stick any decorative non-combustible material on it. Of course, the dimensions of the structure will be slightly increased, but in terms of design, you will not have any restrictions! In addition, the frame can be made collapsible.

Epilogue

In conclusion, I would like to add that no achievements of modern civilization will oust brick ovens from the life and everyday life of a Russian person. After all, they are all quite easy to use, do not need expensive fuel and do an excellent job with all important functions (read also on how to make kitchen furniture at home).

Well, if there is an alternative solution to this, then the old Russian stove will remain as an exclusive and unique element of the kitchen interior decor. For “dessert”, especially for you, we have prepared an interesting thematic video. Happy viewing!
