Why I never turn off my computer

Almost all desktop users turn them off every day by shutting down Windows and turn them on by rebooting the operating system.
For many years now, I've been restarting Windows every few weeks, and I've been using sleep mode to shut down my computer.

Why I never turn off my computer

For some reason, it so happened that on laptops, almost everyone uses sleep and hibernate, and for stationary computer, even a keyboard with a sleep button is problematic to find, and after all, using sleep is very conveniently:

- the computer instantly turns on and off instantly, no need to wait for Windows to load and no need to wait for it to leisurely shut down;

- when falling asleep and waking up, all windows that were open are saved. All programs that have been launched remain running;

- in sleep mode, the computer consumes exactly the same amount of electricity as in the off state.

There are two modes of falling asleep:

sleep - instant sleep in which only memory and keyboard / mouse ports remain to work. The power supply goes into the "off state", while it gives out only one standby voltage of 5 volts, from which the memory and ports are powered. The computer in sleep mode looks like it is turned off (fans and hard drives are not spinning), but must be connected to the mains. Normally, the power LED blinks in sleep mode.

Hibernate - when falling asleep, the contents of memory are written to the hiberfil.sys file in the root of the system disk, and when awakened, it is restored from it. Falling asleep and waking up takes 10-40 seconds. In sleep mode, the computer can be disconnected from the power supply.

I use sleep mode - it's nice when the computer "turns on" in one second. To "turn off" the computer, I press the Sleep button, to turn it on, I press the mouse button (the method of activation is configured in the BIOS).

If the keyboard does not have a Sleep button, you can set up sleep by the power button on the computer case or make your own keyboard shortcut. To do this, you need to create a shortcut for the command C: \ Windows \ System32 \ rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState and assign a shortcut to it using the Ctrl + Alt + letter shortcut.

To wake up, the easiest way is to use the same power button on the case, and if the BIOS allows it, you can configure a keyboard shortcut or mouse button press, as I did.

If you are still shutting down your computer when shutting down Windows, I recommend starting to use sleep - it's very convenient.
