Cleaning of welded seams with a grinder in our household welding is indispensable. It seems that there is nothing complicated here - drive the grinding disc along the seam and everything will be quickly and easily grinded.
But everywhere there are tricks that come through experience. And experience is the result of many mistakes! I'll just show you 3 ways how to clean a weld with a grinder.
They brought me the chassis of the Kamaz trailer, I need to weld a metal superstructure on it for the transport of bulk cargo. First of all, I clean out all the old welding seams that remained after dismantling the structures that were before. Taking this opportunity, I will show the principle of high-speed cleaning.
For clarity, I made 2 greasy seams on a metal plate. These seams, well, not seams, but metal surfacing, were made at low current. This is to make them not only fatter, but also taller.
Method one.
Hold the grinder so that the cleaning disc is at an angle to the horizontal surface. We make only 2 movements, forward and backward along the seam. Everything is controlled easily, but the method is the longest, if you clean a lot, your hands will quickly get tired.
Second way.
The angle of inclination of the disc is the same as in the first case. But the movements of the grinder are different - we move the disk along the seam as if in a spiral. This will be a little faster than in the first case.
The photo shows a little climbed to the left on the base metal. I squinted, just hurried, don't scold me much in the comments! Good way.
The fastest way. We put the disc almost vertically to the seam. Only slightly tilt-degrees 15-20 to the vertical. And just like in the first case, we drive along the seam back and forth.
Just don't press the disc right away, while we sew a stitch on the seam, then you can press. Otherwise, if you press the disc at once, you will simply sink into the seam in one place. A very fast way and hands get tired much less.
I cleaned it with a small grinder on a 125 disc. Sanding disc 6 mm thick.
Friends, a detailed video with these methods will be released on the channel tomorrow, January 10th. There it will be possible to visually compare the speed of grinding the seams.
