Even modern motorists who did not find the Soviet Union must have heard about the fact that in the country of the Soviets, for something, gasoline was painted in different colors: blue, orange and even pink. Given the fact that there are many legends and tales around the country from the past, such a statement can also be attributed to another fiction. First of all, it should be noted that dyes were added to gasoline in the 20th century not only in the Soviet Union. This was done in many other countries, moreover, a number of fuel manufacturers are engaged in such a thing to this day. You should not worry, fuel dyes are absolutely safe for the car and do not affect the characteristics of the fuel in any way. Most often, special enzymes are mixed into gasoline to give it a specific color in order to simplify the procedure for identifying a particular variety.

In the Soviet Union, gasoline was painted for the same purpose. As it is not difficult to guess, there were many grades of fuel in the country, differing in their characteristics (primarily octane number), and at the same time in price. The specific paint made it possible to confirm that the gasoline was not diluted. The use of any third-party additives changed the color of the fuel. Even a not very experienced motorist could recognize the substitution.

In addition, different colors allowed different brands to be identified. This was also done to prevent deception and speculation at gas stations. So, for example, the highest quality AI-93 in its time was painted blue. And after the cases with the dilution of the popular A-72 gasoline at gas stations became more frequent in the country, dye was also added to it, but already pink.
