Harvesting destruction

During the digging of potatoes and other root crops, traces of the vital activity of the larvae themselves can be found. Therefore, it is worth taking action immediately. Dig deep to remove all tubers from the ground. Affected specimens should be burned. If this is not done, then the larvae can overwinter perfectly in the remaining root crops and continue their life next year.

Autumn bait

After harvesting, make traps. Straw and hay should be scattered around the garden and beds, some of which should be pressed down with boards and covered with foil. Wireworm larvae love to feast on fresh plant matter. Therefore, after a couple of weeks, rake all the traps into a heap and burn them.

Deep autumn digging of the garden

For the winter, the larvae usually hide deep in the soil, this helps them survive the cold. Therefore, just before the frost, choose a warm day and dig up all the beds and the garden to a depth of a shovel's bayonet. The wireworm larvae, once on the surface, will no longer have time to find a warm shelter and will simply freeze.

Spring traps

In the spring, shortly before planting root crops, you can put baits. In different places of the garden or ridge to a depth of 10-12 cm, you should bury a potato or carrot, placed in a mesh material or planted on a hook. After a couple of days, collect the traps. The larvae starved during the winter will be taken into the proposed treat.

This procedure can be carried out several times, until the very planting. Remember to burn the maggot traps.

Land disinfection in spring

A solution of potassium permanganate (5 g per bucket) works well for this procedure. Pour half a liter of light pink solution into each well before planting. Then spill the aisles, furrows and paths around the beds.

Onion husks and ash

These available materials are excellent wireworm grub repellents. Mix the two ingredients and pour a handful into each well. The pest will not like such a seasoning for the root vegetable, and it simply will not creep up.

Mustard

Siderates such as mustard are excellent deterrents. It is best to plant it in the fall, after harvest. You can also do this in early spring, three weeks before planting root crops. After the greens have appeared, they are embedded in the soil.

And it should also be planted around the perimeter of the garden, then it will not allow the wireworm to get out of the lawn.

Summer measures

Do not forget to deal with pests in the summer. Water the plants with nettle infusion every week. To do this, fill the barrel halfway with chopped nettle and fill it with water, let it infuse for 2-3 days. Each bush requires about 0.5 liters of infusion. Moreover, it is also a good fertilizer.

Remove weeds from your garden regularly. The wireworm is very fond of settling in the roots of wheatgrass and other vegetation.

If you carry out all the procedures, then in the fall you will be convinced that it was not in vain.
