Everyone knows that everything in life is not the same as in book novels and films. However, they cannot misinterpret literally everything in order to heat the drama. At least something in creative works must be related to the real world, albeit partially. It is interesting how things stand in practice with shooting locks and thick ropes from a pistol.
Almost any work of culture (including cinematic) contains a large number of simplifications, assumptions and even outright fiction. In situations where the creator does not cross the border of good and evil, one should be absolutely calm about this. This is because such "embellishments" of reality are vital either for the movement of the plot, or for increasing the dramatic intensity of the work (to make it interesting to read / watch). And although initially there is nothing wrong with such things, something still needs to be clarified.
Surely everyone has seen a dashing hero (or evil villain) shoot the castle with a pistol in Hollywood films. It can be either a regular door lock or a padlock. Hence the question: can this be done in real life? Yes and no. In order to demolish or shoot the castle, you need a very serious firearm. For example, a smoothbore shotgun with a solid cartridge or specialized shot. Neither a pistol nor most rifles can cope with this task, moreover, ammunition can still ricochet off the lock.

There is another common Hollywood cliché about firearms. In some films, the hero shoots from a pistol, the rope from which bursts so instantly. Most often, such a cool trick is done when someone is to be hanged in the plot. Hence the next question arises: will a pistol bullet cope with a rope? In the vast majority of cases, a pistol bullet will not even hit the rope. However, if this does happen, it will end with a similar (most likely) banal pulling out of several fibers. The rope itself will not burst from this, at least instantly.
