Country electronics in the cold

The night of January 17-18, 2021 in Moscow was the coldest in four years. Surprisingly, the video surveillance and temperature monitoring systems at my dacha survived and continue to work.

A metal cabinet with equipment is installed outside. It has a Keenetic 4G router with a USB modem hanging outside in a jar from Actimel, a video recorder, an uninterruptible power supply. Nearby in a plastic sealed box Zigbee gateway Xiaomi Mijia Gateway 3.

This cabinet is -22 degrees.

Wireless sensors for temperature, humidity and pressure Xiaomi Aqara designed to operate at temperatures from -20 to 60 degrees, but, as it turned out, work at lower temperatures. The sensors swear that the temperature is out of range, but the sensor in the shed transmits data and shows almost -26.

It is interesting to see how effective the log house is in terms of thermal insulation. On the shield veranda and on the second floor -18, and in the house -9.

The graphs show how the temperature dropped during the month.

The motion sensors are not frozen and transmit their status.

The video surveillance system also works. I don't know if a hard drive would have withstood such frost, but I use a MicroSD card as a drive.

My suburban video surveillance system (https://ammo1.livejournal.com/1058080.html) has been operating since the summer of 2019, the temperature monitoring and motion detection system (https://ammo1.livejournal.com/1165450.html) from the summer of 2020.

Last winter was relatively warm, so there were doubts whether the router, modem, recorder and cameras could withstand the real frost. We survived! It is even more surprising that wireless zigbee-sensors powered by lithium batteries can withstand such frost.
