A popular hydrangea is grown by many summer residents. To get a beautiful bush, you should choose the right time when to plant it. Let's figure out when is the best time to schedule such work.
We choose the time of transplanting or planting hydrangeas
Usually summer residents do not have any difficulties when planting this crop. The main thing is to do it carefully and choose the right place under the bush. I dug up a hydrangea bush from a neighbor, so I tried to keep the soil ball with the roots to the maximum. Not bad I got accustomed and those plants that I bought in pots.
Before transplanting, it should be remembered that in different regions, planting work is performed at different times:
- In outskirts of Moscow. In this region, hydrangeas can be transplanted at the beginning or end of summer. When carrying out work in the fall, shelters are built over the bush. If this is not done, then the fruit buds will suffer, and the bush will stand without flowers for the season.
- in the Urals and Siberia. In these parts, the culture is planted in warm weather - until mid-May, so that new roots can grow.
- In the Far East. Since spring here is stormy and short and quickly turns into summer, a spring transplant is preferable. If you need to transplant not in the spring, then it is better to plan the work at the end of the summer. At the same time, cut the stems at ground level, and after planting it is good to cover the surface around the plant. Only this should be done no earlier than the first frosts, otherwise the plant will rot, which will lead to the formation of a fungus on the surface of the earth.
When is the best time to transplant hydrangeas?
I think the best time to plant hydrangeas is spring. During the summer and early autumn, the plant will have time to adapt to new conditions. You can plant this crop in the fall, but then you should prepare the covering material in advance. In the summer, I would not replant the bushes, the heat itself is a shock for the plants, and the disturbed bushes will hurt.
How to transplant a hydrangea to a new place
When transplanting, it is better to listen to experienced gardeners who recommend moving the plants before the buds swell. If the moment is missed, the transplant should be postponed until autumn.
It is better to choose a place for hydrangea in partial shade, there should be no wind and drafts. The soil for the plant is prepared from several components: black soil, peat, turf, humus and coarse sand. You also need to check the acidity of the soil. If it is insufficient, it must be acidified. You can use a solution of a teaspoon of citric acid in a bucket of water. This amount of liquid is enough for a couple of wells.
If the seedling's earthen ball is very dense, it is kneaded a little to give air access to the roots.
Planting hydrangeas in spring
- A hole is dug twice the size of an earthen coma and a depth of at least half a meter.
- 10 centimeters of broken brick or other drainage are poured into the bottom.
- Fall asleep soil mixture and shed well.
- The plant is carefully transferred to a new place. Inspect and remove old and diseased or damaged roots.
- The bush is lowered into a hole and covered with soil, which is then compacted around the plant.
- The trunk circle is mulched with pine bark or sawdust.
Planting hydrangeas in autumn
Planting works begin when the average daily temperatures drop to +15…+18 °C. Hydrangeas planted before winter are not pruned, otherwise the bush will weaken and endure the winter worse. After planting, the trunk circle is mulched, and the shoots are wrapped with agrofibre in 2-3 turns.
Planting hydrangeas in summer
If the plant needed a transplant in the hot season, this is best done by transshipment. For the procedure, it is better to choose a cloudy or rainy day. Before transplanting, they try not to water the plant. After moving to a new place, a canopy is made over the plant from the sun. It is important to monitor the soil moisture throughout the season and prevent the roots from drying out.
Is it possible to transplant blooming hydrangea
In my opinion, if there is no great need, it is better not to touch the bush until autumn, and even better - until next spring. Stress will affect flowering, the buds will wither and fall off.
Hydrangea transplant is not the most difficult manipulation even for a beginner grower. The main thing is to do it in the right season and in the right phase of plant development.
