Good afternoon, my reader. Field bindweed (also called "birch") is a type of root-sprouting plants, considered one of the most common garden weeds. It blooms with numerous small "bells", which create the illusion of plant harmlessness and even make it outwardly attractive. However, the bindweed can significantly hinder the growth and development of garden crops, tightly braiding their shoots, and for many summer residents it is a real headache.

Fighting it is not an easy task. The bindweed is tenacious, as it has strong roots, from which new shoots branch out. It will not be possible to cope with it, even if you dig deeply the soil of the whole garden, since damage to the root system bindweed do not lead to its death, but on the contrary, they can provoke its increased growth and more active spreading along site.
Ways to deal with bindweed (birch)
There are several of them. But the most often used are mechanical (hand weeding) or chemical methods.
Chemical method
It involves the use of chemical herbicides. The method is quite effective, but it is not popular. The fact is that in order to use them against bindweed, it will be necessary to impregnate the soil with the composition over the entire area of the site, which will negatively affect its fertility. In addition, it happens that the roots of the weed, even after intensive processing, remain unaffected by the poisonous substance, and after a while it begins to grow again in the garden.
Hand weeding
It will not be possible to defeat the bindweed with its help. Scraps of root filaments will always remain in the ground, which will soon give new shoots. A certain positive result can be achieved only in small areas. To do this, it is necessary not only to pull out the weed by the root, but also to sift the ground in the place where it grew. As a rule, this operation will have to be performed more than once.
The development of bindweed as a plant with a strong root system occurs as follows: first, the roots feed the shoots, helping them acquire greenery, and after starting the process of photosynthesis, the already formed plant will begin to feed roots. If they are periodically deprived of such a recharge, they will eventually lose their vitality, deplete and, in the end, die.
It is on this pattern that another way of dealing with bindweed is based. It consists in removing all the shoots until the leaves appear on them. In this case, the root system will give a significant part of the nutrients to the sprouts, but it will not wait for re-feeding. Of course, instead of each removed sprout, the root will give a new one, but, deprived of nutrition, after the third time it will completely deplete and die.
This method is quite simple, although laborious. Using it, you can permanently rid the site of such an unpleasant weed as bindweed (birch).
