It must be burned or taken away from the garden, since pests and various harmful bacteria could accumulate there over the winter.
Without a "fur coat" the earth begins to warm up faster. Together with the shelter, we remove dry leaves, rotten roots, and check the tubers themselves. If necessary, we replace them with fresh, young bushes. Everything that has been removed from the garden must be burned.
Then the bed is loosened and left as it is. You can pour water with the addition of potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate) for disease prevention and pest control.
Top dressing
The good formation of green mass is facilitated by fertilizing with nitrogen fertilizers. Most often, organic and mineral fertilizers are used:
- Dissolve manure in water in proportions 1:10. Water 2 cups under each bush. Dry chicken droppings (diluted 1:12) or herbal water infusion (weeds, nettles) are also suitable.
- Strawberries are very fond of nitrogen fertilizing. You can buy them or complex fertilizers. In specialized stores there are ready-made strawberry dressings. In this case, follow the instructions.
Top dressing is carried out 1-2 times until the ovaries appear. Make sure that no water gets on the young leaves.
Pest control
They try to carry out the processing before the flowering of the strawberries. But if the diseases began to develop later, then it is better to use biological drugs or folk remedies. Of the drugs, you can select "Fitoverm" or "Aktovir". Ash will help to drive away insects - lightly powder the bushes.
Strawberries love mulching - during the flowering period, you can cover the beds with straw or other mulch (processed grass, tree bark). It is best to use spruce or pine needles.
Some gardeners prefer to cover their strawberry beds with covering material. This protects against weeds and helps to retain moisture in the soil. However, one must be careful about this method. Especially after the snow melts. Be sure to check in the spring how the strawberries feel and what the condition of the soil under the material is. Infrequently, but still there is the formation of mold and fungal diseases develop. Pay attention to the condition of the strawberry root system. The material does not always allow moisture to pass through well enough, and water can stagnate.
