Types of flower beds

Flower garden - This is an area where decorative flowers, deciduous, herbaceous and shrubs are grown. The sizes and shapes of flower beds can be very different - to the taste of a florist. The flower beds themselves are classified into:

  • Modularwhere plants are combined with park architectural forms (fountains, statues) or even with garden tiles.
  • Mixborders - compositions of various types and varieties of flowers, framing garden paths, fences or simply placed along the walls of buildings.
  • instagram viewer
  • Tapeworms. They are harmoniously divided according to color tones, plant height, and the shape of their leaves.
  • Rabatki. Narrow flower beds with monochromatic plants, often part of a perennial flower garden. They can be designed in the form of geometric ornaments.
  • Curbs. They are long flower beds with low flowers. Sometimes they are used as separate design elements for flower beds with perennials.
  • Rockeries, or stone gardens. These are original natural compositions collected from natural stone, decorative green plants and flowers.
  • Rock gardens. Low artificial slides on which plants are planted, characteristic of the nature of the Alps.
A chic, well-groomed flower garden can be created by any gardener who is ready to spend a little time on it. The first step for this should be to consider all its possible schemes and choose the most acceptable option.

Design schemes for flower beds of perennial flowers

Scheme No. 1: Simple option. The composition is based on perennial plants characterized by long flowering and unpretentious care. For instance:

  • Panicled phlox. A beautiful pink flower that thrives on sandy and drained soils. It is planted in autumn (early September) or spring (early March), under favorable conditions it will bloom from mid-July to early autumn.
  • Astilba. Blooms from late June to late August. The abundance of flowering depends on care: periodic loosening of the soil and top dressing.
  • Day-lily. It is planted in spring on fertilized, drained soil - preferably loam with an acidity level of 6-6.5 pH.
  • Heicher. It has lavender leaves and a chic purple flower with a silver tint. Blooms from May to mid-summer.
  • Geranium. Forms lush bushes, blooms from mid-July to autumn.

Scheme number 2: "Heart". Heart-shaped flower beds look original. For them, it is better to use small plants from which it will be possible to create a composition in pink and burgundy tones. For example, peonies can be used as a frame, and roses are well suited for the interior.

Scheme No. 3: "The sky in the clouds". Creative border multi-row flower bed. The first row can be made, for example, from gentian and Transcarpathian bell, the second - from white phlox.

Scheme No. 4: A flowerbed from a set of perennials that bloom immediately after planting. In the background, you can place yellow and white mallow, complemented by sunflowers, accentuating them with St. John's wort and Irish poppy. For disembarkation in the central part, cardinal lobelia is suitable, for framing - Fassen's catnip and Poskharsky's bell.

Soil preparation

Having chosen a place for flower beds and a scheme for their design, you can start preparing the site. It is carried out in several stages:

  • cleaning of garden debris (fallen leaves and dry branches, stones);
  • soil treatment with insect pest control agents;
  • digging the site to a depth of 50 cm with the removal of weeds.

Site preparation work depends on the type of soil:

  • For clayey, replenishment with organic fertilizers, humus, peat will be required. Next, it is necessary to form a drainage layer up to 15 cm high, for which you can use crushed stone, gravel and even brick chips.
  • For sandy soils, drainage is not needed, they create another problem - rapid water withdrawal, which can lead to dehydration of plants and their death. To retain moisture, the bottom of the future flower garden is laid out with a clay composition. The soil is fed with plant-based fertilizers. The finished soil for the flower bed should be 10-15 cm above ground level.
Flower beds made of perennial plants will decorate any garden, significantly enhance its aesthetics and will delight gardeners with their bright colors for many years. Well, to create them, it is not necessary to be a specialist in landscape design, it is enough to have only basic knowledge and good imagination.
