Why do you need to level the site

The plot is usually leveled in order to make it easier to care for the plantings, so that excess moisture, dirt does not accumulate in irregularities and folds of the soil, and in general, so that the site looks aesthetically pleasing. It is easier to lay garden paths, to install structures on flat terrain.

Leveling the site with equipment

For leveling large areas, technique is usually used, since it is difficult to manually cultivate more land areas. A small tractor will quickly cope with irregularities up to 20-30 centimeters high and remove large stones and stumps, if there are any on the site. The removed soil must be treated either with special means or thermally. After the fertile layer is freed from weeds and treated from pests, it is returned to its place. It turns out a uniform loose soil layer, ready for planting.

Leveling small areas

To level a small area, you either need to use a motor cultivator, or you can do it all by hand. The sod is removed from the site, which is stored away from the site to be processed. The soil is leveled and rammed, and the earth is shaken off the sod onto a spread film to preserve the fertile soil layer. After the plot has been leveled, this land is returned to its place, and, if necessary, humus or fertile soil purchased from the store is added to it. On the territory, which has become flat due to processing, you can break flower beds, arrange lawns, lay garden paths.

How to properly cultivate the soil

As we can see, the leveling of any area constantly ends with the device of the fertile layer. For this, a part of the land is used, which is previously removed from the turf during leveling. It is advisable to free such soil from the roots of wild plants that grew on it, and subject it to thermal or chemical treatment in order to get rid of pests.

In addition to processing, this soil is enriched with fertilizers and nutrients are introduced into it. If the soils are, for example, clayey, then peat and sand are added to them so that the fertile layer is loose and easy for planting. Ash and other organic matter can be added to the soil.

The layer of fertile soil should be at least 15 centimeters. That is, if you removed a layer of 15 centimeters, then it is advisable to put on top not less, or even more than the indicated thickness, so that the roots of the planted plants take root well.

As mentioned earlier, when leveling the site, there is no need to completely change the topsoil. It is enough to add the purchased soil to the remaining land. But it is advisable to carry out the return procedure within one to two weeks after removing the top layer. This is necessary for several reasons:

  • so that the bottom layer of the soil does not dry out;
  • so that the removed soil does not lose its useful properties;
  • so that pests do not start in the removed soil.

The smaller the area of the site, the easier it is to align it. Everything depends on the financial capabilities and the physical state of health of the one who will work with the land. But the efforts made and the invested funds will not be wasted, because after the completion of the work, you will receive an even landscape of the site, which can be given any look the owner wants.
