Useful Tips

Self-grown seedlings save harvest costs to a large extent. In order to achieve this, you need to follow some rules. Strong seedlings should have a well-formed root system, a thick sprout and a few side branches.

But a good harvest doesn't just depend on healthy seedlings. Very often, gardeners make some mistakes when caring for tomatoes. One of the most common is considered to be an excessive enthusiasm for feeding. For the normal development of tomatoes, it is necessary to organize their timely balanced nutrition.

Frequent feeding leads to disruption of plant development. In most cases, this causes an active growth of crops, and at the same time, ovaries do not form or fall off. This condition is called "fattening".

In order for this not to happen with tomatoes, you need to carefully review the ways of caring for them:

  1. Take care of the soil. There should be no excess nitrogen in the soil mixture, as it drowns out reproductive functions. It is not recommended to feed the plants with fresh mullein. Fertilize with nitrogen with great care at all stages of tomato development. The active appearance of green foliage is considered a sign of fattening. It is necessary to reduce watering and remove the two lower leaves.
  2. After planting the seedlings, the introduction of nitrogen is not recommended. Better feed the tomatoes with phosphorus fertilizer. With the help of this element, the root system is well formed. If the plant lacks phosphorus, then fruiting will decrease and the growth of vegetative shoots will increase.
  3. After flowering, the culture needs elements such as potassium and magnesium. To do this, you can use a weak solution of potassium permanganate. This will provide protection against diseases and improve fruiting. If there is a lack of magnesium, you can spray the plant with magnesium sulfate.
  4. When transplanting seedlings to an area, limit watering for 14-21 days. This will help in adapting the roots. The root system begins to absorb moisture faster, and the culture takes root. We must not forget that with a strong drying out of the earth, growth slows down, and the flowers and ovaries fall off.
  5. When organizing watering during the ripening of tomatoes, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the soil. During the period of sharp waterlogging of dry soil, the fruits may crack. Therefore, tomatoes need to be watered often, but in small quantities. This will help the root system to revitalize and provide the plant with additional natural nutrition. If, during the formation of fruits, a bud appears at the top, then the culture begins to invest all its strength in growth, and not in fruiting. In this case, you need to pinch.
Tomatoes do not like excessive fertilization of the soil, therefore, all preparations are recommended to be applied in small doses.
