When, once again, while watching TV, I come across an advertisement for miraculous remedies that dissolve any blockages in the sink in seconds, I sincerely smile. I think everyone who is somehow connected with plumbing, its installation and replacement will understand me.
You don't need to be an expert to understand that to remove a large blockage, the siphon needs to be disassembled and cleaned. Typically, the worst blockages are found in kitchen sinks.
Naturally, not every housewife can disassemble the siphon, I generally keep quiet about other manipulations associated with cleaning it. This is a complex and labor-intensive business.
But you can't cause plumbing for every blockage - it's expensive and not very convenient. So it turns out that it is easier for women to put some "miracle remedy" into the sink.
Today I am going to talk about a very simple but effective method. I note that you will still need the help of a plumber, but only once. Everything you need from a specialist to install the right siphon under the sink. I note right away that not every plumber is familiar with the method described below!
And it's all about the design of the siphon itself. The best option for kitchen sinks is a corrugated siphon, which is curved in the form of a zipper. This design contributes to the formation of a water seal. To prevent the zigzag from straightening, you can fix it with a special jumper, but you can do without it.
From personal experience, I will say that many plumbers do not trust this design. They argue that it is too difficult, and indeed pointless, to zigzag the corrugation. Some argue that because of the bend, the water will not kill the stench coming from the sewer.
There is some truth in these words. However, the statements become true if the zigzag is in cramped conditions, for example, under the sink.
There is usually "where to roam" under the kitchen sink, and therefore you can give the corrugation any shape you want, including a zigzag one.
When you come across a blockage again, just shake the corrugation. I assure you that the water from the sink will immediately start flowing down the drain.
There is one important point: a corrugation with a diameter of 50 millimeters is suitable for this method. With 40mm corrugation, blockages are much more common.
If you think the method is too basic to be effective, try it yourself! Share the results in the comments!
