1. It all started with a dream
A. AND. Pokryshkin dreamed of being a pilot since childhood. Then he first saw airplanes and their flights in Novosibirsk. Naturally, in order to realize his plans and desires, as an adult, he did everything that depended on him. Even at a young age, the future ace understood that health is paramount in this matter. Therefore, self-training was in the first place (he performed a special set of physical exercises, trained endurance).
Pokryshkin's talent for inventions manifested itself in childhood. Difficult technical problems were beyond him. In addition, he studied in a special circle. As a teenager, he invented self-rotating car headlights and even prepared calculations for an improved machine gun. And what is interesting, these calculations were noted as correct, although they approved another weapon, rapid-fire. Despite all his talents, the guy saw himself as a pilot.
2. First steps in flying
Initially, the future military pilot entered the military aviation technical school in Perm, where he learned the profession of aircraft technician, since there was no flight department at that time. After graduation, he was sent to Leningrad, to the school. After graduating from it, he was sent to the 74th Taman Rifle Division as a senior aviation technician of the aviation link.
The dream was not abandoned. During the seventeen days of his first vacation, Pokryshkin fully studied the program of civil aviation pilots. This gave him the opportunity to enter KVVAUL them. A. F. Myasnikov. And he graduated from this school as an external student and was sent to the 55th Fighter Aviation Regiment as a junior pilot.
3. The Second World War
Military, combat life at Pokryshkin started on the very first day on the Southern Front. Then the Germans dropped bombs on the airfield. The first aircraft downed by the pilot was the Messerschmitt Bf.109. This event happened in 1941, on June 26. For two summer months, closer to autumn, the pilot had one hundred and ninety sorties. According to reliable data, he has a total of 650 sorties (combat), 156 battles. At the same time, he personally shot down 59 enemy aircraft, and as part of a group - 6.
4. Innovations from Pokryshkin
The pilot realized that the domestic technology was hopelessly outdated practically in the first military weeks. This was the reason that he began to write down personal ideas for improving it in his notebook. Naturally, it was not without an analysis of the battles and the behavior of the crews during them.
Among the fundamental points, according to Pokryshkin, was the ability to detect the enemy first. He believed that this opens up new opportunities during attacks and maneuvers. One of the main, effective tactics invented by the ace pilot was the "Kuban whatnot". This is a special formation of a group of military aircraft, where each had its own clear task. The results were amazing. The enemy could not escape.
But that's not all. On account of Pokryshkin and other tactics, such as an open battle formation (the aircraft included in the group are removed at a great distance from each other for better fire and tactical interaction) and separation in height. Often the pilot attacked, diving, and then very abruptly went upward ("falcon strike"). Another technique, no less effective, is "scissors". The reception neutralized the enemy, who was entrenched on the tail, by the oncoming convergence of Soviet aircraft.

A. AND. Pokryshkin in all cases took responsibility for himself, performing the most dangerous and difficult maneuvers. Of course, the team went without thinking about their commander. Often the enemy could not understand how many more Pokryshkins he had to meet in the sky at the same time. The team was so close-knit and so well trained that it could not fail to command respect in the ranks of the enemy side. The best pilots in Germany, who faced Soviet pilots on the battlefield, later told about this.
