Advice

All gardeners follow some rules that indicate what not to do when growing tomatoes:

  1. The soil for tomatoes should not be very greasy. Excess organic matter in the ground only harms the plantings. It is not recommended to add humus or peat, as well as compost, to the prepared recess during the planting of seedlings. A large amount of nutrient fertilization causes increased foliage growth to the detriment of the appearance of ovaries. On such plants, the tomato harvest will be small, and the fruits themselves will be small. In addition, excess organic fertilizers help in the development of phytophthora.
  2. The composition, which is based on cow dung, should be used when feeding no more than 2-3 times per season. An excess of nutrients affects the plant worse than a lack of them.

  3. Tomatoes are harmed not only by excess organic matter, but also by urea. The substance should not be added to the fossa while planting seedlings. Feeding with urea during growth is also not recommended. You can use this solution: 10 l of water / 15 ml of substance. Spray the bushes with the prepared composition, but not too abundantly. Processing should be carried out during the growth of the bushes, until about 3-5 June.

When planting tomatoes, it is advisable to fill the holes with fresh grass. During the decay period, it will feed the roots of the culture with useful microelements. You can use the grass on top of the soil to mulch with a layer of about 10 cm. In the rest of the period, the plant will not need additional watering, since the mulch will protect the soil from drying out.

Instead of grass, wood ash can be added to the ground. Then, during watering, once a month, you can pour about a handful of ash powder under each bush.

Gardeners are advised to carry out top dressing twice a season: in the last days of May and at the beginning of July.

First feeding. To prepare the solution, use: liquid (20 l), complex preparation (2-3 tablets), fresh mullein (1 l), boric acid (1 tsp. l.) and nitrophosphate (2 tbsp. l.). Stir and water the bushes in a volume of 1 liter per bush.

The second feeding consists of 20 liters of water, 1 liter of manure, 2 tablespoons of potassium sulfate and 2-3 tablets of a complex preparation. Drizzle in the same proportion.

The first feeding supplies the plant with phosphorus and potassium. It helps tomato bushes grow faster and flower stalks form. The second (potassium) allows you to increase the number of healthy ovaries, and also helps in the growth and ripening of tomatoes.

After July 15, feeding is stopped. Watering is carried out only in hot weather. It is necessary to monitor soil moisture: strong fluctuations in moisture in the ground also harm the plant. At this time, tomatoes are saturated with moisture from rain and dew.

With an excess of moisture in the soil, the stems and foliage develop rapidly, and the ripening of tomatoes is suspended. Tomatoes ripen at the same time only on lean ground.
