Do you like persimmons? Juicy, sweet, especially if it is not tart? I am very! Of course, you can buy it in the store, but it is expensive. You have to buy one by one and eat enough, unfortunately, you can't - you can't afford it.
This state of affairs did not suit me, and I thought about starting a favorite plant in my dacha. But how can I do this in the cold region where I live? There were doubts that the tree would not overwinter or that the fruits would not have time to ripen.
I read articles on the Internet, reviews of experienced gardeners, watched a bunch of videos on YouTube, and realized that you can take the risk. And there is no risk, in general.
It turns out that scientists already in 1957 bred special varieties for a frosty climate. They can withstand temperatures down to -37 ° C. You just need to buy suitable ones that are resistant to disease and frost. Good seedlings are hard to find. Be sure to purchase already vaccinated.
For cold weather you need a stock of persimmon VIRGINSKAYA. The most winter-hardy. It has a long root that goes into the depths and takes all the most nutritious from there.
But I settled on the Meader variety and was not mistaken. After three seasons, the tree was about 1.80 cm in height, after 5 years it began to bear fruit. I decided to choose it because it is a self-pollinated variety. That is, he does not need to plant a couple to set fruit. Moreover, the plant, in itself, requires a lot of space, and there is no way to plant a LOT of trees in the country. In addition, it is difficult to find a landing site for one. It should be sunny and well protected from the winds.
It so happened that in the spring all the seedlings in the company were sold out. I'm not the only one who turned out to be so smart. I was able to order them only in the fall. And I was scared to plant my acquisition in the winter: it suddenly freezes out.
I put him in a potato sack filled with a third of black soil and sand. Shortened the barrel a little. And in the cold basement, my purchase was waiting in the wings. In the meantime, it took root and developed roots. I periodically watered this business.
Since the roots of the seedling go deeper, I dug a hole deeper in the spring. I poured half a bucket of humus and sand into the hole. I added some land and mixed it. I poured 15 liters of water there. The roots are neatly distributed so that they go down. It is convenient to make an earthen mound in the middle of the planting pit for this. I covered everything with soil, tamped it down.
Once planted, I cut the trunk by a third, to the first bud. This allowed it to take root better and put all the energy into the development of the root system. He wrapped the lower part of the trunk with a special foil to the branches, so that the seedling gets used to the cool climate. Watered once a week. In general, watering should be abundant. Persimmon loves 1-2 times a month, several buckets per adult plant.
In the second year, in May, my beauty bloomedbut I cut off all the flowers. Subtracted that it should be so. Very productive tree turned out. The time has come and in the fall it was strewn with orange fruits. Not very large, but juicy and sugar-tasting. And a nice bonus - they were pitted. They hung on the branches, right up to the snow. They did not crumble and became even tastier from the cold. Now every October I feast on my favorite fruits. Try it too. You will not regret!
