How and where do flight attendants rest during long-distance flights.

If someone happens to make a transatlantic flight that will last more than 12 hours, do not be alarmed when you suddenly see flight attendants descending from somewhere from the "roof" of the plane. Fortunately, such an amazing sight is not a figment of the imagination, but reality, because it is in the upper part of some airliners that there are sleeping places for those who take care of passengers on the way.

Transatlantic nonstop flights last so long that you wonder how the flight attendants are I manage to be always on my feet and remain as friendly and "fresh" as in the beginning travels. But the secret turned out to be quite simple, long-distance airliners have hidden bedrooms in which the crew members can sleep and put themselves in order.

Secret compartments are reliably hidden from the eyes of passengers, so only by chance one can witness how stewardesses descend from the "roof" of the airliner along tiny steps. According to the Novate.ru editors, such bedrooms are not located on all aircraft, so bother and watch where they periodically disappear. crew members on such models as Superjet 100, Boeing 737 and Boeing 767/777, Airbus A320 / A321 and Airbus A330 / A350, better not - they are there simply not.

Reference: Additional compartments above the cabin of airliners are provided only in the following models: Boeing 747, 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A380, as well as those Boeing 777s that fly transatlantic. In other words, those aircraft, the flight of which lasts more than 12 hours (which exceeds the maximum allowable time for the crew to work), are equipped with rest and sleep rooms.

It is understandable why breaks and proper rest periods during any extended non-stop flight are critical. This capability certainly helps pilots and flight attendants remain extremely alert and active.

Given the dimensions of the aircraft itself, these secret compartments can have different filling, area and height. They will be especially miniature in those models in which they are located above the tail section. As a rule, in such rooms there are only places to sleep and you can get there only on your knees. These sleeping areas have individual mattresses, bedding and seat belts, because different situations can arise during the flight.

When looking at the design of some Boeing 777s, the rest and sleep rooms for the crew are located in the front, above the business class cabin. In this type of accommodation, the hidden compartment has an elongated look and the beds are arranged in two tiers, like in a ship's cabin. Despite the fact that there is a very narrow passage between the sleeping areas, you can move along it at full height. Also, the designers managed to organize privacy in mini-cabins, despite the fact that they are very tiny.

In the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the secret rest area for flight attendants will be even more spacious, although even the ghostly privacy will receive only a few, because the beds are located in a continuous space and are separated only by curtains or soft partitions.

But for the pilots, their own private rest rooms are organized and they are located above the control cabin. The only thing is that they are equipped not with stationary beds, but with folding chairs for business class passengers. A control panel and communication with crew members are also installed there. There is also a separate toilet in this compartment.

Interesting fact: In October 2019 the aircraft of Australia's largest airline, Qantas Airways Limited, made an experimental non-stop flight between New York and Sydney as part of the Project Sunrise program. Distance of 15.59 thousand. km the airliner covered in 19 hours. The main purpose of the flight was to determine the capabilities of the crew members to maintain the desired atmosphere in the cabin and traffic safety, after all, the test program is designed to open regular commercial flights from Sydney to New York and Sydney to London (17 thous. km, in flight 20.2 hours).

When aircraft “leave” for a well-deserved rest, not everyone will face an unenviable fate and oblivion. Some find new life thanks to enthusiasts transforming them into restaurants, cafes, apartment buildings and even hotels. Such a radical change of course occurred and
with the next 8 airliners and helicopters, which ended up on earth with mind-boggling hotel rooms.
