The interiors from the 2000s are hopelessly outdated today. Their principle was based on a wide range of different active patterns, textures and shapes.
Designer Nika Dyuzheva explained how to update an outdated interior and what to look out for first. She described the first key steps in a previous article (link at the end of the material).
7. Replace your sofa with newer models
The outdated interior is revealed by old upholstered furniture. She is often too voluminous and has strange, complex silhouettes. This is usually accompanied by variegated patterns or the texture of the upholstery - for example, a catchy classic ornament or glossy leather.
If possible, it is better to purchase a modern sofa. Against this background, other whimsical elements will appear as part of a thoughtful concept based on fashionable eclecticism.
6. Choose a solid color carpet or skip it altogether
Previously, carpets were also chosen according to the principle - the more interesting the pattern, the better. Try replacing it with a quieter, solid color option. Cover them with almost the entire space of the room, leave only small gaps. This will significantly modernize the interior.
5. Use laconic textiles without prints and patterns
It is recommended to remove complex window textiles of flashy shades and, moreover, with lambrequins, folds, grabs and brushes. Use plain, plain curtains.
It is not necessary to make everything neutral, but if you decide to modernize and “calm down” only part of your interior, then it is better to work on simplifying it and minimizing details. The same goes for blankets, pillows and other textiles.
4. Replace kitchen facades with modern ones
An overly accent kitchen set can be muted by repainting the facades, replacing the handles with options of simpler shapes. If you can't get rid of the heavy construction of the furniture yet, you can at least calm down the color and thereby give the kitchen a more stylish, neat and laconic overall look.
3. Bring the interior to the grotesque with the help of decor, or refuse it
You can go from the opposite method and further complicate the interior, bringing it almost to the grotesque. Try to exaggerate the big picture by adding other legacy elements as well. This will give your home or apartment the look of an unusual art gallery.
Of course, this kitsch trick is not for everyone. If you decide on it, then do not forget to add a little modernity and slightly dilute the oversaturated interior with less catchy details.
2. Remove accents in niches
Often in outdated interiors there is an abundance of niches and other structural elements made of plasterboard. Moreover, they often take on rather complex forms.
If you still want to leave them, then it is better to remove accents from this construct and paint it in the color of the walls. Whenever possible, minimize the number of shelves in open niches and don't push them too much.
1. Use a warm light spectrum
Often in outdated interiors from zero there are RGB LED strips. Better to remove it. If you need it, then use a warm yellow light that is as pleasing to the eye as possible. It is also recommended to refuse too cold backlights.
