The problem that will be discussed today is the most relevant for private houses. With the beginning of winter, many residents notice that the windows in the house are "crying". Condensation drips onto the windowsills, which is quite inconvenient and very unhelpful. A similar phenomenon occurs in some apartments.

On New Year's holidays, we went to congratulate my aunt, who lives in the village. She complained to me that their windows "sweat a lot" every winter.

We arrived at my aunt in the village. There is condensation in streams on all windows in the house. I thought for a long time why, but still found a reason

Moreover, the problem is so strong that her husband even organized a small drain through which the condensate flows into the jars. In one night, about 150 grams of liquid is collected in the container.

I will say that they live in the most ordinary, old village house, which is heated by a gravity gas system. I thought that plastic windows react this way to inappropriate conditions. But my aunt said that their wooden windows also “cried” on a regular basis.

Then I undertook to look for the cause of such high humidity in the house. Soon I managed to find her, and even more than one!

  • At first, the relatives have an underground in which they store jars of jam, rolls and potatoes. All the cold and damp air from the basement rises into the house, passing through the cracks in the wooden floor. Her husband tried to insulate the underground, insulate it with polyethylene foam. However, he did not succeed in doing this well, the cracks remained.
  • Secondly, from the inside, the wooden walls are covered with polystyrene, which is covered with clapboard on top. I warned that this should not be done, but the uncle decided to do it his own way.

Polyfoam, as you know, does not allow moisture to pass through, so it all remains inside the house. And, as I found out, the house is regularly filled with damp, cold air from the underground. As a result, water settles on the windows in the form of condensation.

It turns out that humid, cold air enters the house, but it can no longer leave it, since it is interfered with by foam. During the heating season, the air heats up and, after contact with cold glass, settles on them. And then streams flow through the windows.

To solve this problem once and for all, you need to properly insulate the floor. You can also lay a film on the floor in the subfloor, then moisture will not get into it.
