Causes of drying leaves in tomatoes

To cope with this problem, it is necessary to determine the cause of its occurrence. And there are several such reasons:

  • Insufficient or excessive amount of trace elements in the soil.
  • Improper watering of plants.
  • Hot period.
  • Various fungal diseases.
  • The defeat of the root system.
  • Parasites.

What to do if the tops of tomatoes curl?

If there is a lack or excess of microelements in the soil, it is required to work out the feeding regime. Tomatoes do not tolerate excess organic matter and herbal infusions. A balance must be struck between nutrients. Insufficient amounts of substances such as copper, phosphorus, potassium and calcium, as well as excess nitrogen, lead to leaf curling. It is required to regulate the amount of received fertilizers.

The tops begin to curl up and take the form of a boat with a lack of moisture. Watering should be normalized: you need to water more often and increase the amount of water.

Tomatoes fold their leaves during a period of elevated air temperatures. In the evening, they usually bloom. It is necessary to shade the area with a covering material. Treat the tomatoes with urea (two tablespoons of the product per 10 liters of water), and two days later - with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. The leaves will return to their original appearance after several treatments.

Diseases of tomatoes

There are several diseases of tomatoes:

  1. Bacterial cancer. The foliage becomes brown and dries up. The stems are covered with cracks.
Cut the damaged bushes, moisten in a solution of copper oxychloride, dry and burn. The solution consists of 60 g of the product and 1 liter of water. This tool must be poured into the roots.
  2. Fine-leaved virus. The culture does not die, but it also does not produce tomatoes. For this disease, irrigate the bushes with a pale solution of potassium permanganate every two days.
  3. Fusarium. The foliage withers and curls up, starting from the bottom, rather slowly reaching the top of the bush. The fruits are covered with a light bloom. Affected bushes should be removed and burned, and healthy plants should be irrigated with an antifungal agent.
  4. Bacteriosis Tomatoes grow slowly and have small flowers. They must be destroyed, and the soil must be irrigated with potassium permanganate.

When planting, the root system may be damaged. After a while, the roots will recover on their own, and the leaves will regain their original appearance.

When purchasing certain pest control products, read the instructions for use before spraying.

Preventive work when curling leaves

Some actions can help in the fight against curling of tomato leaves. Shading and mulching of the earth will be protected from direct sunlight. Water the plants every three days, and if the soil is mulched, then once every 7 days. Regular rationed feeding will supply the culture with all the necessary substances. It is necessary to detect parasites and diseases in time, and then properly get rid of them.
