Good afternoon, my reader. Garlic is considered to be one of the most unpretentious garden crops. Even the winter cold is not terrible for a spicy vegetable. However, if brisk green leaves began to turn yellow ahead of time, it is necessary to establish the cause. With the loss of leaves, plants will not be able to produce a good harvest. Despite its tenacity, garlic can suffer from drought or pest attacks.

Identifying the causes of wilting

  • Pest infestation - garlic stem nematode, onion root mite;
  • lingering cold in spring or cold summer;
  • deficiency of essential trace elements in the soil;
  • the soil does not allow air to pass through well;

How to help plants

  1. Provide good air exchange in the soil. Landings must be carefully loosened and weeded. Weeds prevent plants from developing normally, pulling nutrients from the soil. On clayey, heavy soils, loosening is carried out at least 1 time per week.

  2. Garlic needs a sufficient nitrogen content in the soil to form leaves. Top dressing with nitrogenous fertilizers is carried out until mid-June. When the leaves turn yellow, minerals can help. Urea or nitrate is added at the rate of 1 tbsp. l. on a bucket of water.
  3. Organic herbal supplements can be used to combat yellowing. Use infusions of nettle or dandelion. To prepare the infusion, take 2 kilograms of leaves and stems of any of the plants, chop with scissors or pruners, pour 10 liters of water and leave for at least 12 hours. After the time has elapsed, the infusion is filtered and the planting is shed. You can spray the leaves with infusion.
  4. For a more pronounced effect, nettle infusion can be kept for 10 days. During this time, the raw material will begin to ferment and release nutrients into the water. Grind the nettle together with the stems, add warm water, close the container and place in a warm place without access to sunlight. The mass must be fermented, there should be no bubbles on the surface. The smell will be unpleasant. This starter culture is diluted with water at the rate of 1 liter of fertilizer per bucket.
  5. When garlic is affected by onion fly and fungal diseases, plants are sprayed with ammonia solution. Take 2 tbsp. l. hydrogen nitride per 8 liters of water. The treatment is carried out in the evening, since the use of this agent can provoke sunburn.
  6. After 10 days, you can add mineral dressings: superphosphate, saltpeter, urea. Prepare an aqueous solution according to the instructions and water the plants. After a day, weeding and loosening of the soil are carried out. If rainy weather is established, then fertilizers are simply scattered on the beds. Under the influence of rainwater, they will dissolve and penetrate to the plants.
You should not postpone feeding and processing of garlic. Lack of full photosynthesis due to loss of leaves will negatively affect the formation of bulbs.
