Good afternoon, my reader. Tying plants is an important action when growing a lot of crops, including tomatoes. Now there are many ways to conduct it, with which we will help you figure it out.

Why do you need a garter for tomatoes
Almost all tomatoes need to be tied up, since vegetable growers often grow tall and abundantly yielding varieties, and they certainly need to be fixed. Here are some reasons:
- Tall crops cannot support the weight of vegetables and can break easily.
- When tied, tomatoes are high from the soil, and thus will be protected from diseases and parasite attacks.
- It is easier to remove stepchildren on tied fruits, the tomatoes do not have time to ripen on them, but only take a lot of strength from the bush.
- Bushes are easier to water and feed.
Garter plants in greenhouse conditions
It is much easier to fix shrubs vertically in a greenhouse than in a garden bed. To do this, use any posts and garters.
Do not use thin and hard material for the garter.
Tying methods
You need to choose the mounting option based on the height of an adult shrub, variety, yield.
Fixing with a separate support
This method is used for small greenhouses, greenhouses in which neat and medium-sized tomatoes are grown. Supports must be installed near each bush, and their height must be the same. Wrap a strip of fabric around the stem and secure it to a support.
Fastening to a metal mesh
Use this method for low, high yielding crops. Place a metal "pipe" mesh around the bush and anchor it in the ground. The only challenge is picking tomatoes.
Linear mount
This method can be used if your greenhouse structure is long enough and the bushes are densely planted along the walls. Install metal pipes at opposite ends of the greenhouse. Pull a rope between them and tie the bushes to it. Tall plants are not suitable for such a garter.
Trellis method for garter tomatoes
Pull the ropes between the installed supports with an interval of about 30 cm between them. Attach tall bushes to ropes using plastic clips or pull them through a rope device. Spreading plants are suitable for such an attachment.
Vertical trellis
Attach a sturdy rope to the ceiling and secure the other end at the beginning of the bush. The plant will grow and "crawl" along it. And you just need to guide and secure the bush with clips. Such a "core" helps the tallest and most fruitful bushes: they will not break from the weight of the fruit.
Fastening to the grid.
Any mesh can be used. You need to pull it between the posts. Such a fastening allows you to fix powerful and neat shrubs in the desired position.
Garter tomatoes in the garden
All methods suitable for greenhouses can be used in the garden, however, it is not recommended to use natural fabrics, because they rot over time and become breeding grounds for infections.
Supports for fruit garters. For installation on beds, the supports must be more powerful. Deepen each by at least 20-25 cm. The stake should be at least 2-2.5 m high. Do not tighten the material very tightly.
Separate strengthening for tomatoes. For the garden bed, build a small fortification in which the bushes will be protected.
Caps. You can make a pyramid in the form of a "wigwam". For such a shelter, use any available means (vine or pegs, tied transversely, as well as wire). The pyramid will cover several cultures. Install structures at intervals of up to one meter.
"On hook". Place stakes on both sides of the bed for tying up bushes. Pull the cable, attach a fishing line with loops to it (the interval between them should be at least 20-25 cm). Insert S-shaped sturdy wire hooks into the eyelets to tighten the line. Tie the opposite end to a peg near each bush. Cut the rubber ring out of the bike tube, slide it under the shoot, and hang it over the hook. The plant will grow, and you remove the hook from the loop and move it to a higher one.
Unusual methods of tying tomatoes
For non-standard methods, original support structures are used:
- Hoops. Such a support can be made from three perches and three hoops of different sizes. Place hoops of a smaller diameter from below, attach the stem with clamps.
- V-shaped device made of lattices. Dig in two grates tilted in opposite directions. Do not tie up the plants, they will settle comfortably themselves.
- Unnecessary TV antenna. This item can also be used as a support.
What to make pegs for tying
Many objects can act as support (pipes, strong branches, boards, coarse mesh).
What varieties can be cultivated without a garter
Such tomatoes include undersized and early ripening species, as well as superdeterminant varieties that ripen early and do not require pinching.
However, standard tomatoes are best suited. These plants are determinant, they have a short and dense stem and short stature.
