Cucumbers are a rather capricious culture. When growing in a greenhouse, many gardeners are faced with such a problem as fruit rotting. I myself have saved the fruits of this more than once. I want to share my experience.

Causes of rot

Most often, this trouble occurs as a result of a violation of the microclimate or the rules of agricultural technology:

  1. The greenhouse is not ventilated.
  2. Elevated temperature.
  3. Excessive watering and stagnant water at the roots.
  4. Condensed landings.
  5. Poorly tilled soil before crop sowing.

As a rule, rot pathogens are located in the upper layer of the soil. Under favorable conditions, high humidity and temperature, they begin to actively develop. At first, I observe a white coating on the plants, which begins to actively spread and affect not only the healthy parts of the bush, but also neighboring crops.

Types of rot that cucumbers are exposed to in a greenhouse

I have come across these types:

  • white;
  • gray;
  • root and stem, also known as fusarium;
  • brown spot or cladosporiosis.

I'll tell you the signs in more detail.

White rot

A white coating appears on the affected area, which rapidly, under favorable conditions, begins to spread to healthy tissues, making them watery.

Gradually, the plaque becomes black and the plant dies.

Rot gray

It affects the trunk, shoots and fruits. Actively develops at low temperatures and high humidity. Penetrates into tissue culture through damaged areas.

Fusarium

One of the most common diseases that affects most varieties of cucumbers. I draw your attention to the fact that at the initial stage of development, only the roots rot, so you can not detect Fusarium immediately, but as soon as the leaves begin to turn yellow and the ovaries fall off.

Gradually, the base of the bush becomes thin, turns brown and rots, and the bush fades.

Cladosporiosis

The appearance of small olive-colored spots on the foliage indicates that the plant is suffering from cladosporiosis. Gradually, the spots turn into sores that become watery, open, and then turn brown.

Stems and lashes gradually rot.

If you do not take a timely fight against olive rot, it will quickly spread to neighboring plants.

Fighting methods

I recommend starting an active fight against rot as soon as the first signs were discovered.

First of all, I normalize care and microclimate:

  1. I reduce the amount of watering. For cucumbers, it is enough to add water no more than 2 times a week in a normal summer.
  2. I use water a couple of degrees above the air temperature. Watering with cold water leads to hypothermia of the root system and its decay.
  3. I'm airing the landing. To do this, on the one hand, I open the door, and on the other, the window. So the greenhouse is ventilated and there is no draft. In addition, the humidity index decreases.

I follow the scheme for planting cucumbers:

  • distance between plants 25-30 cm;
  • between rows - 35-40 cm.

Thus, thickening does not occur. The bushes are well ventilated, there is no excess moisture.

Also, before placing the cucumbers in the greenhouse, I pre-prepare it:

  1. In the fall, I remove all plant debris.
  2. I'm digging up the soil.
  3. I'm fumigating.
  4. In the spring, I thoroughly wash the structure, paying special attention to cracks and seams.
  5. I re-dig the soil.
  6. I disinfect with Bordeaux liquid 5%.

So, rot on cucumbers appears due to improper planting, violation of growing and care conditions. It is important to detect the disease in time and take measures to combat it.
