To achieve abundant, large and long-lasting flowering, she needs care. For example, it is important to know how to repot a plant correctly.

In summer and autumn

Lilies are transplanted at the end of flowering, waiting for several weeks. This is done both in summer and autumn.

For different varieties, the timing may be different:

  • Late (or autumn). Planted before winter or early spring.
  • Medium (bloom in mid-July). Planted in the second half of September.
  • Early (bloom in June). Planted in the first half of August.

If necessary, late varieties are transplanted to a new place immediately after they have faded. The bulbs will overwinter safely, but there is a chance that the plants will bloom late. In some cases, they do not bloom at all in the first year after transplantation.

Spring transplant

To plant lily bulbs in a permanent place in the spring, they are dug out at the end of October. By this time, the tubers have accumulated the maximum amount of nutrients to overwinter.

After being removed from the ground, they are carefully examined for rot and traces of disease. Only healthy specimens are suitable for planting.

In the spring, proceed as follows:

  1. The landing site is pre-dug to a depth of 35 cm.
  2. The planting depth of tubers is 3 bulb diameters.
  3. The planting material is placed downside down.
  4. Maintain a distance of at least 17 cm.

Storage conditions for planting material

The bulbs are disinfected with a weak solution of potassium permanganate (or "Epin") and dried thoroughly. Put away for storage in a cool, dark place. For example, in the refrigerator in a drawer for vegetables and fruits.

The tubers are wrapped in bags with air holes or packing bags.

Also used for storage are wooden boxes with wet sawdust. This helps to keep the bulbs from drying out. Then the container is placed in the cellar, observing the temperature regime - at least 0 o C.

Landing in open ground

The planting material is re-examined after storage. Then they are soaked for some time in a growth stimulator and dried thoroughly.

When landing, adhere to the rules:

  1. A new place is chosen sunny, protected from wind and drafts.
  2. Planting holes are drained with sand or expanded clay.
  3. Place the onion with the bottom down.
  4. Nutrient soil is added, which includes peat, sand, mineral fertilizers (superphosphate and potassium sulfate). Dolomite flour or wood ash is added to the soil with high acidity.
  5. Spill abundantly.
  6. Mulch with peat.

If the transplantation took place in the fall, then after a while, when the ground slightly freezes, the tubers are covered with spruce branches or dry leaves (at least 15 cm), slightly pressed down from above with boards.

In the spring, immediately after the snow melts, the shelter is dismantled. In the case of recurrent frosts, the planting is covered with a film so that the shoots do not freeze.

Secrets of a Successful Transplant

Lilies will delight the owner with abundant, bright flowering when using some secrets:

  1. The thickening of the bush must not be allowed. In this case, there is a possibility of infection with infectious and fungal diseases. To avoid this, the bush is planted once every 5 years.
  2. When new cuttings appear at the base of a flowering bush, they are planted.
  3. Asian varieties can be propagated even during the flowering period. They are resistant to the stress of changing locations. However, unblown buds can be thrown off. Plants are transplanted together with a lump of earth, being careful not to damage the root system.
  4. In the spring, the transplant is carried out before the shoots appear above the surface of the earth. Otherwise, the procedure is postponed until summer or autumn.
A lily transplant is necessary to avoid thickening in the planting nest, otherwise the shoots will become thin, weak and will not bloom.
