Every summer I try to take my family out to sea. Resting only in resort towns is very expensive. Therefore, we often stay in small villages and towns located near the sea.

Frankly, each region of our vast homeland deserves special attention. Each has its own flavor and its own unique features. People everywhere live in different ways, sometimes it gets out of our usual view. Russia is an amazing country!

Why are houses made with gable roofs in the north of Russia, and only gable roofs in the south? Came south to look for an answer

The profession has left an imprint on my perception, so I pay attention not only to the mentality, but also to the houses in which people from the provinces live. When we stayed in the villages in the Kuban, I noticed that the houses there are absolutely different from each other. All of them are made of different materials and using different technologies. The only common feature is the four-pitched roofs.

This is not the case in the northern regions. Naturally, I wondered why hipped roofs are being built in the Kuban.

I confess that I even pestered the locals with this question. However, no one could give me a clear answer. Well, it happened so and that's it! It turns out that 4-pitched roofs are a kind of tradition. And whether this carries some kind of semantic load, it remains unclear.

I would like to share my thoughts on this matter. Do not think that I am imposing a personal opinion on someone. If you think otherwise, I will be happy to hear from you in the comments!

I propose to delve into history.

In the north, as a rule, the territory is covered with forests with large and powerful trees. Therefore, many houses were built from logs, and the roof was made of timber planks.

In the southern regions, there are often "huts" built of thin wood and covered with clay. These houses are quite strong and durable, but still cannot be compared with buildings made of logs.

It is logical to assume that the load on the walls of the "huts" should be uniform. This can be achieved with a 4-pitched roof.

I dare to put forward a second version.

In the North, it snows more often and lasts longer, and in the South, sea, piercing winds blow.

Clearing snow is easier and more convenient from sharp, 2-pitched roofs. But such roofs may not be able to withstand strong winds. Sloping roofs are easier to tolerate hurricanes, but from a large amount of snow can collapse.

Do you have your own versions of why in the south they build houses with only 4 pitched roofs?
