Good afternoon, my reader. If the owners of the site want to distinguish themselves, bring in uniqueness and original design solutions, then a hedge will be the ideal solution. It not only performs a protective and demarcative function, but pleases the eye with its beauty and shape, besides, it is a relatively inexpensive way of ennobling the territory. But to create such a fence, certain types of shrubs are suitable, which have their own characteristics of care and formation.

The variety of suitable crops allows you to choose plants with a long flowering period and even fruits that will further decorate the composition.

Selection of plants

In most cases, hedges are made from shrubby plants, but sometimes they are replaced with small trees.

There are 2 basic types of plants:

  1. Conifers. The fast-growing hedge is prized for its unchanging evergreen look. But only undersized coniferous shrubs are suitable.
  2. Deciduous. The benefit of such plants is in a high growth rate, the differentiation function is performed after 1-2 seasons.
When choosing a hardwood hedge, one must not forget that all species have a different rate of growth of shoots. The fence will have to be cut and kept in shape at all times.

Plants in the composition should be combined with each other. In the presence of climbing crops, make sure that they do not go beyond and do not interfere in flower beds or beds.

Shrub examples

  1. Barberry. Shrub with minimal demands, easy to grow. It firmly endures cold winds, drafts, does without watering for a long time, and excess moisture will only contribute to the development of rot. In the second year after planting, it must be trimmed. This is required not only for aesthetic purposes, but also for sanitary purposes. Dry wood and weak branches are removed.
  2. Dogwood. Unassuming plant for shade, suitable for outdoor hedges. Resistant to drought, easily tolerates a haircut, survives with strong air pollution, almost does not get sick.
  3. Tern. An easy-to-maintain, actively growing shrub that does not require pruning. The hedge turns out to be thick and lush, blooms profusely in April and May.
  4. Honeysuckle. A bush with a graceful spreading crown of many shoots. In May it releases yellow-green flowers, then blue elongated edible fruits ripen in their place. For the first 2-3 years, honeysuckle is cut for prevention, then a fence is formed.
  5. Ivy. The curly liana is valued for the abundance of foliage, easily clings and wraps around any walls and supports. Grows well in the shade, does not require pruning and watering. It is better not to plant it in the open sun so that the green mass does not suffer.

The second place when creating a living wall is taken by trees. Maple, willow, aspen are great.

Shrubs that form shoots and grow in different directions (blackberries, raspberries, irga) are not suitable for hedges. Their development is difficult to contain by pruning. Do not use plants that have a lot of pests. A tight planting will make it difficult to treat with chemicals, and with an invasion of insects near the hedge, decorativeness will quickly deteriorate.

Frost resistance is also one of the main conditions in determining the types and varieties of shrubs for fencing. Such crops will not have to be uprooted and replaced with new ones.
