Rules for feeding garden strawberries in the spring

Before feeding strawberry bushes, pay attention to the stages of development and the length of the plant's life.

Experts advise to follow the following rules:

  1. Immediately after planting, the bush does not need to be fed, because during the period of digging the beds, nutrients have already been introduced into the ground.
  2. Bushes need to be fed for 2-4 years of life with mineralized and organic fertilizers.
  3. In the third year of culture development, use minerals for feeding.

Fertilize the bushes for the first time in early spring, as soon as the snow melts and the leaves have not yet blossomed. Apply top dressing during the formation of the bushes. In the spring, the stable development of shoots and leaves should be ensured for the plant. In this regard, use nitrogenous compounds as fertilizer.

Prepare the necessary solutions for spring as follows:

  1. It is necessary to prepare a fertilizer consisting of liquid (10 liters), mullein (two glasses), as well as ammonium sulfate in the amount of one tablespoon. Mix the ingredients thoroughly and pour 1 liter of solution under the bushes.
  2. In 10 liters of liquid, you need to dissolve nitroammofoska (1 tbsp. l), apply top dressing to the soil in a ratio of 0.5 l / 1 bush.
  3. An organic composition is required to be prepared from the foliage and shoots of nettles: fill the container with branches and fill it with heated water. Let the solution brew for 3-4 days, and then feed the root system. Do not filter the tincture, but dilute with water in a ratio of 1:10. Strain and dilute the nettle infusion with liquid before spraying. For one bush, 0.5-1 liters of the prepared solution will be required. The nettle liquid contains minerals (magnesium, phosphorus).
  1. For the solution, you can use a nutrient made from poultry droppings. Pour the substance with liquid in a ratio of 1:10 and let it brew for 3-4 days. Pour 0.5 liters under each bush. The same solution can be prepared from mullein.

Feeding strawberries during and after flowering

The next strawberry dressings are postponed to May-June. At the initial flowering, plants need potash fertilizers to improve the flavor of the berries. After the addition of fertilizers, the fruits acquire a pleasant aroma, the shelf life of ripe berries increases. After foliar feeding, the appearance of the bushes improves.

If the soil lacks potassium, then the fruits may not ripen. To prevent this from happening, dilute potassium nitrate in a liquid (10 l) in a volume of 1 tsp. l. Water the shrubs at a rate of 0.5 L per crop. This solution can be used to spray on strawberry foliage and stems. For external feeding, a mixture of mullein or zinc sulfate should be used.

At the end of flowering, in order to increase the yield, during the development of the ovaries, foliar feeding can be carried out with complex additives with minerals.

Use compost for fertilization, while placing it around the circumference in a layer of about 5-8 cm.

Wood ash can be used as a versatile and high quality fertilizer. This substance contains potassium and phosphorus. The ash left over from the combustion of birch firewood, straw and conifers brings a great effect.

Iodine can be used as a prophylaxis against strawberry diseases and feeding. Dissolve a trace element in the amount of 5-10 drops in 10 liters of water, mix the product and spray the bushes before flowering. Perform the procedure 3 times with an interval of one and a half weeks.
