Causes of occurrence

First of all, you need to figure out why the dampness appeared. There may be several reasons:

  1. Defective ventilation. These may be mistakes made in the design of the ventilation duct. For example, floor slabs block the air flow. Or there is garbage in the aisle. Due to the difference in temperature outside and in the room, drops of moisture are formed. If the problem is not corrected in a timely manner, condensation will cause mold.
  2. Moisture penetration through cracks. Over time, cracks can form in the foundation. If they are not repaired in time, moisture will enter the cellar through them.

  4. High groundwater table. In the spring, due to melting snow or in the summer with heavy rains, the basement can be flooded. This is due to poor drainage of the room. Drying out such a cellar is extremely problematic. Dampness and mold can persist there for a long time.

Effects

The appearance of condensation and then an unpleasant odor are the first signs of dampness in the room. If you do not take any measures to eliminate dampness in time, the consequences may be as follows:

  • the formation and spread of mold and mildew;
  • violation of the temperature regime;
  • increased humidity;
  • reproduction of harmful microorganisms;
  • destruction of floors, walls, foundations.

It is no longer possible to use such premises for storing crops. All root vegetables will rot.

Ways to get rid of dampness

First of all, they carefully inspect the room to find the cause of the dampness:

  1. If condensation is detected, the cause is poor ventilation or no ventilation at all.
  2. Puddles on the floor indicate an increase in the water table.
  3. Drops and moisture on the walls - poor insulation of the cellar.

Cleaning ventilation

To solve the problem with ventilation, they try to clean it. To do this, take a long wire and tie a brush to its end. The structure is launched into the pipe. The brush cleans dirt from the pipe walls.

In some cases, it is necessary to organize an additional air flow. To do this, an additional window is made in the basement wall to the street.

In basements with a large area, it is recommended to install forced ventilation. This is done using a fan that is mounted directly into the exhaust duct.

Disposal of condensation

Condensation on the walls is caused by temperature differences. For example, if sewer pipes are placed in the walls of the cellar or basement, the temperature of which is higher. It is on them that moisture is formed.

They get rid of this problem by isolating communications. For example, mineral wool, foam or extruded polystyrene foam.

Additionally, an exhaust duct is installed in the cellar. At different levels and at opposite ends of the room, two pipes are mounted - supply and exhaust. Thus, additional traction is obtained, the basement is ventilated.

Lowering the water table

The infiltration of groundwater into the basement is a serious problem. Which can cause the building to collapse. They solve it by strengthening the foundation and pumping water.

They resort to measures:

  • dig up the foundation;
  • organize additional drainage;
  • strengthen the foundation;
  • make internal and external waterproofing;
  • a blind area is poured along the perimeter of the building.

Additional drainage of the cellar is organized as follows:

  • gravel and sand 17 cm thick are poured onto the floor;
  • cover with a layer of 1 cm of quicklime.

The walls are additionally covered with waterproofing plaster.

If a damp corner is found in the basement, a bucket filled with calcium chloride is placed in it.

The last step is to dry out the basement.

Before placing the crop in the basement or cellar, it is disinfected with copper sulfate or potassium permanganate. Then thoroughly ventilate and dry.
