Sometimes on the headlights of cars you can see special pads. Basically, they are installed on domestically produced cars, for example, UAZ or military-type equipment. At first glance, you might think that this is a normal tuning - beautiful, but from a practical point of view it is absolutely useless. In reality, everything is different. Especially when you consider military vehicles. Everything in them is thought out to the smallest detail. Based on this, we conclude that overlays play a certain role and are an important component.
They are called blackout devices, and from the name it is clear what they are used for. On military technical means, SMU is mounted in order to camouflage vehicles that can drive one by one in the dark or in a convoy. Thanks to blackout, it becomes possible to minimize the risk of detecting military vehicles by enemy ground and air forces. In general, the SMU kit includes both headlamp covers and elements that mask the rest of the devices that emit light, and a mode switch.
The SMU functions in three different modes: NC (not darkened), CHZ (partial darkening), FZ (full darkening). PZ is activated if the covers are down and additional devices are turned on, all bulbs emit less bright light. To obtain partial shading, only the covers are lowered. The speed at which the car is allowed to move also depends on the selected mode.

In the PZ mode, a speed of no more than 25 kilometers per hour is allowed. And if the cars are traveling in a convoy, then the speed should not exceed 15 kilometers per hour. If the blackout is partial, then the speed should be 30 kilometers per hour and 25 when the column is moving.

The effect of SMU is only when a full-fledged kit is installed on the equipment. On UAZs used in everyday life, there are only covers on the headlights. In this case, this is actually tuning, from which in practice there is no benefit.
