Even if you used the most expensive and high-quality grout, it will darken over the years, and in some places it will begin to crack. In the worst case, it will even spill out of the seams. As a result, the general appearance of the room will deteriorate, the tiles will look dirty and unkempt. Let's take a look at the ways in which you can whiten inter-tile seams.
What factors lead to darkening of the grout
Insufficient ventilation in the room can cause this problem. Also, improper maintenance of the tile, the lack of timely cleaning of the tile, negatively affects the state of the grout.
Before covering the joints with grout, you need to process them. If a bad remedy was used, then disastrous results will not take long.
High humidity or too high room temperature does not bode well. In tandem with insufficient air exchange, it is a detrimental grout and tile mix.
When the walls in the kitchen are tiled, then due to the lack of an exhaust hood, grease, fumes, etc. will settle on the seams.
A few tips "from the people"
If you notice a large amount of dirt in the tile joints, do not hesitate to solve the problem. The presence of black dots indicates the development of the fungus. In this case, the seams must be treated with an antiseptic so that the mold does not "crawl" further along the walls.
1. Baking soda is a panacea for all diseases!
Moisten the seams with plenty of water, then sprinkle with baking soda. After a few minutes, the stitches should be brushed with a toothbrush. For more effect, apply baking soda to the brush as well. At the end of the procedure, the tiles should be rinsed with running water.
2. A mixture of baking soda and table vinegar
This tool is very simple, but very powerful. To prepare it, you need to mix 7 glasses of water, 100 grams of baking soda, 1/3 cup of lemon juice and 50 grams of vinegar. We mix all this and rub the inter-tile space with the prepared mixture.
For convenience, you can pour the product into a spray bottle. After 15 minutes, brush the seams with a brush - any dirt will easily go away. Finally, rinse the tiles with water and dry them dry.
3. Pharmacy agent - hydrogen peroxide
This method is good because it is safe for human health. After the seams have been treated with peroxide, they do not need to be rinsed with water. Plus, the peroxide will keep mold from spreading further.
To make an antiseptic, combine peroxide with water (in a 1: 2 ratio). Apply the resulting liquid to the seams and the tile itself. After that, you can go about your business, because you need to wait for the product to dry.
After such treatment, you will forget about mold. True, the eaten-in spots are unlikely to be defeated.
4. Mustard mix
We prepare the next product as follows:
- We take a liter of clean water and pour a large spoonful of mustard powder into it.
- Then we squeeze out a slice of lemon, add 100 grams of soda and about 5 grams of tooth powder (paste is also suitable).
- The resulting mass is applied to a sponge, after which we process the tile joints. After 30 minutes, rinse off the product from the tile.
In the recipe, lemon can be replaced with citric acid, previously diluted in warm water.
5. Vinegar with ammonia
In this case, you need to dissolve a spoonful of vinegar in a glass of warm water. Then add ammonia (about 10 milliliters) to the liquid. We wet the sponge with the resulting solution and wipe the seams. After half an hour, wash off the product with clean water.
Bonus!
I also want to tell you about the method that helps me personally. I clean the seams with toothpaste on an old brush. I rub them with a paste, and after 10 minutes I wash everything off. The result pleases me! Try it too!
