Sometimes it becomes necessary to transplant not only young flowers, but also adult plants. In order not to harm and accidentally ruin the capricious flowers during the relocation, you need to know the basic rules and secrets of this process.

Transplant time

Early spring and early autumn are the best times to move roses to a new location.

It is not recommended to transplant at the end of autumn and, moreover, in winter - a fragile plant due to low temperatures may not take root and die.

If necessary, it is allowed to carry out the procedure in summer, but only in cloudy weather.

Before transportation, the rose bush must be cut off - tall plants are shortened to 50 cm. When transplanting a young bush, only fresh shoots are cut off.

The necessary conditions

So that the rose does not experience stress in a new place and takes root well, it is necessary to preserve the conditions for its cultivation as much as possible. A radical change in the habitat of a plant is allowed only if the previous one was not suitable for its full development.

Remember that the rose does not like and does not take root well in windy, heavily shaded areas or in soil prone to moisture stagnation.

Instructions for transplanting an adult plant

  1. Before digging up a rose for replanting, prepare a new planting surface for it by clearing it of roots and weeds. Place drainage at the bottom of the dug hole, fill it with fertile soil with the addition of compost. For the earth to settle, it is necessary to wait several weeks before planting an old bush in it.
  1. In order not to damage the root system, the rose must be dug along the projection, trying to preserve the earthen lump as much as possible. To prevent the soil from crumbling, pre-moisten it with water. When you get to the earthen lump, wrap it with plastic wrap or cloth. Try to dig the base of the rose without loss. Chopping off interfering long roots is allowed - with further proper care of the plant, the root system will quickly recover.
  2. Gently place the bush pulled out of the soil on a spread oilcloth, a sheet of cardboard or cloth and drag it to a previously prepared hole.

If you need to relocate the rose a long distance, wrap a damp cloth around the roots along with a lump of earth. This will help you avoid drying out the flower's root system.

  1. Place the plant in the new planting hole at the same level as it was previously. Remove the strapping from the coma only when the hole is half filled with soil, water abundantly. After completely filling the hole for soil subsidence, repeat the irrigation procedure. Add earth if necessary - it is important that there are no voids of air around the rose.

Flowering plant transplant rules

The technology for transplanting flowering rose bushes is similar to that described above.

When deciding to transplant a bush during flowering, be prepared to sacrifice its buds. They are removed in order for the rose to direct its forces not to flowering, but to restore the root system, and take root well in a new place.

It is also important to observe careful handling of the plant, try not to injure its roots and preserve their length as much as possible.

Rules for transplanting climbing or climbing roses

When replanting these species, take into account the peculiarities of their structure.

At ramblers, try to keep all fresh shoots. In order for the branches of roses to become woody, in early autumn, you should pinch the tops of the plants.

To avoid damaging the long climing shoots when moving the plant to a new location, shorten them by almost half.

Old shoots of climbing roses (from 2 years old and older) should be completely removed at the end of flowering.

With careful transplantation and proper care, roses will not cease to delight you with their lush flowering.
