Plant selection

Experts believe that not all varieties of garden roses are easily propagated by cuttings. Best rooted:

  • ground cover;
  • climbing;
  • polyanty;
  • floribunda.

Hybrid tea roses can also be propagated by cuttings. However, the result could be much lower. Especially if you try to root flowers of yellow and dark red shades.

In addition, it must be borne in mind that in the open field, cuttings are carried out from mid-June to the end of July. And in greenhouses (greenhouses) - from March to the end of April. At the same time, to achieve a positive result, green shoots need good lighting, a stable temperature of 22-25 ° C and high humidity (about 80%).

Step-by-step process of grafting

To harvest cuttings, you must choose a healthy bush that is not damaged by diseases or pests. Green shoots should have well-developed buds.

Stage 1. Harvesting cuttings

The stems of roses as thick as a pencil are cut with a sterile sharp knife into pieces 5-8 cm long. The best quality cuttings are obtained from the middle part of slightly lignified one-year-old branches (0.5-0.7 cm thick). The lower cut is made, departing from the kidney 1-1.5 cm, at an angle of 45 about. And the upper one should be straight, 0.5-1 cm above the kidney. To reduce the area of evaporation of moisture, the upper leaves on the green shoots are cut in half. And the lower ones are completely removed.

Stage 2. Processing before planting

The harvested sections of the stems are first treated with any growth stimulant. To do this, you can use aloe juice, bee honey or a solution of "Heteroauxin", "Kornevin". Any of these funds (1 tsp. l.) are diluted in a glass of water. The lower edge of the appendix is placed in the solution for 12-15 hours. In this case, the stimulating liquid should not touch the leaves.

Stage 3. Planting in pots

Cuttings treated with growth stimulants are ready for planting in the ground. For rooting, take small containers with holes in the bottom. They are filled with a drainage layer and fertile soil. Potting potting mix can be purchased at any flower shop. And if necessary, cook it yourself from turf soil, leaf humus and washed sand, adhering to a ratio of 2: 1: 2.

Any soil before planting is disinfected with a biological product "Fitosporin-M" or a saturated solution of potassium permanganate. The cuttings are planted without deeply deepening - the lower end should be immersed in the soil by no more than 2 cm.

Stage 4. How to create a greenhouse effect

In order for the process of rooting the shoots to be intensive, it is necessary to create greenhouse conditions for future seedlings. To do this, cover each stalk with a glass jar, a plastic bottle (cut off), or a large, clear plastic bag. Mini-greenhouses are placed in a warm room or right in the garden, while not forgetting to slightly shade.

Stage 5. Care of future seedlings

Rooted cuttings need a moderately moist soil. Therefore, if necessary, the topsoil is sprayed with a spray bottle. The mini-greenhouse is ventilated every day so that condensation does not collect under the shelter. Excessive humidity leads to the development of fungal infections.

In addition, green shoots should be protected from direct sunlight. With proper care, young roots and the first leaves will begin to form on the cuttings 3-4 weeks after planting. At this time, the film (or other) shelter can be removed.

Stage 6. Planting seedlings in the ground

To make high-quality seedlings from green shoots, they are left in pots until spring. Containers with cuttings for the winter are transferred to the basement or other cool room. The soil in the planting containers is periodically moistened so that it does not dry out completely.

With the arrival of spring, overwintered seedlings begin to be planted in open ground. This usually occurs in the second half of May, when the earth is sufficiently warmed up by the sun and the threat of night frosts has passed.

A simple but very effective method of green cuttings will help you create a fragrant flower garden in your area. Starting experiments with the most unpretentious types of roses, you can learn to root more capricious specimens.
