Considering the current scheme of the branch of the Gorky Railway Yar-Svetlopolyansk (the first station is in Udmurtia, and the last in the Kirov region), it is not difficult note that Svetlopolyansk will be a dead end on a number of maps, in particular on the Russian Railways resource, while in several other sources the road continues to Lesnoye. On the Soviet maps, it was all the same - the specified station was considered the terminal station, and sometimes the Verkhne-Kama station was located. But the railroad didn't end there. It stretched further, and more than two hundred kilometers.
History of the defunct railway
Back in 1916 planned to build a road in the north-east direction from the station. Yar, but the revolution became a hindrance to these plans. In 1929 g. they thought about construction again, since it became necessary to transport timber and phosphorite ore, which were mined in that area. But by the end of the thirties of the last century, when Vyatlag was built, one of the largest Gulag forced labor camps, a new 180-kilometer railway line was extended north from st. Verkhnekamskaya (Rudnichny village). This railway was a connecting link between the points of the camps, and their number increased regularly until 1953.
Thus, the railroad track was laid up to Krutoborka. It was this that was the connecting element between a large number of settlements (there were more than fifty of them). Even before the Second World War, a project was made, according to which it was planned to continue the existing route to Ust-Kulom. On the Vychegda River, near this old Russian village, they thought to build a fairly large hydroelectric power station. But after World War II, these plans were abandoned.
At first, prisoners were the main labor force, a little later prisoners of war became it. In Vyatlag in 1939 there were approximately 20,000 convicts, and already closer to 1948. their number has grown to over 25,000. By 1938 paved the road to Sotsgorodok (Lesnaya station). A depot was also built there. Since 1939 trains with passengers, consisting of two carriages, began to arrive here on a regular route. As for the railway going further north, it was classified, which means that it was not displayed on ordinary maps. This continued until the nineties of the last century.
After Stalin died, several additional settlements related to Vyatlag appeared on the maps. Some of the former prisoners who were released under the amnesty decided to stay in them. Despite this, the road for most people remained unknown, although at the section of the station. Verkhnekamskaya (Rudnichny village) - Krutoborka is about 250 kilometers away.
Gaino-Kayskaya Railway was first in the department of the NKVD, then the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR. In the eighties, after the number of camp sites was reduced, part of the road was dismantled. But this part of the railway track, and with it the accompanying infrastructure, began to fall into decay only after the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics collapsed.
History of the existing road
The road after the expiration of time passed to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and after that it was put on the maps, but it had to be removed very quickly. And the point was not at all in secrecy, but in the fact that many kilometers of the track simply disappeared. Slowly, the rails began to be removed and scrapped. Despite the fact that hundreds of citizens continued to live in a number of settlements, the route passing through them was considered unnecessary.
Since the mid-nineties of the last century, they began to discuss, and quite actively, a project called Belkomur. According to him, it was planned to build a railway line on the Solikamsk-Arkhangelsk section. The use of the Gaino-Kayskaya railway was one of the possible options. But then there were difficulties with the modernization of this road and its introduction into the project, because it does not belong to Russian Railways.

At the beginning of the 2000s, trains went along the Lesnaya-Krutoborka route, where about 2,000 people lived. Gradually, the number of people in the village became less and less and the trains stopped running here. They stopped going to Rudnichny, and not so long ago, 10-15 years ago. Today, only thirty are left of the 250-kilometer road. This is the section located between the stations Verkhnekamskaya and Lesnaya.
