Every motorist probably guesses that the radiator of his "swallow" would not be superfluous to periodically clean. This should be done at least once every few years. Those who clean the radiator for the first time may be very surprised at how much dirt accumulates in such a simple device. However, the biggest frustration lies elsewhere: the radiator must be removed. Q: can the device be effectively cleaned without removing it?

The radiator gets dirty not only outside but also inside. Everyone who has already cleaned this device in their car at least once knows this perfectly well. Moreover, the amount of garbage that has been stuffed into a radiator after a couple of years of operation can unpleasantly surprise even an experienced person. Outside, fluff, dirt, dust, insects, road reagents are stuffed into the radiator. Additive sediment and rust build up inside the radiator. All this "happiness" should be removed for efficient operation of the cooling system.

So cleaning the radiator 100% in case of strong external pollution without removing the device will not work on most vehicle models. It is possible to carry out external cleaning, leaving the radiator itself in place, only in cases when the specifics of the design of the machine allow it and the contamination of the mesh is not too strong. All this, by the way, is a good reason to clean the cooling element as often as possible.

Another thing is the internal space of the radiator. In most cases, it can be cleaned even without disconnecting the entire system. You will need a pack of baking soda, a bottle or two of distilled water, and a suitable hose. You can also run the car engine with a mixture of water and flushing fluid. Of course, you will first have to drain the antifreeze. After cleaning, the radiator is flushed several times with distilled water alone. Only after that, a new antifreeze is poured.

In conclusion, it is worth adding that it is still better to remove the radiator during cleaning, since only with this approach can the cooling system be fully checked for leaks.
