So that after flowering strawberries bear fruit with numerous and large berries, measures must be taken in advance. And, in addition to watering, loosening the soil and weeding, top dressing plays an important role here. At each stage of the life cycle, this crop has a different need for nutrients. Therefore, we will figure out how to properly feed strawberries during flowering.

Root fertilizers
If at an early stage of development, strawberries needed nitrogen primarily in order to grow enough green mass and bloom, then a little something else is needed to form peduncles. First of all, the plant at this time needs potassium - a substance that helps the development of flowers first, and later fruits.
Potash formulations are usually applied at the root. There are two main methods for this:
- Unfolding granular preparations on the soil, followed by watering.
- Watering with a nutrient solution.
But potassium is not the only substance required for the formation of ovaries. Strawberries at this time need iodine, boron, manganese - and nitrogen, too, has not been canceled. Therefore, for a good harvest, we recommend that you use the following products (the dosage is indicated for a ten-liter bucket of water):
- Potassium nitrate (potassium nitrate) - 5-6 g (heaped teaspoon).
- Medical iodine solution - 10 drops.
- A complex of 2 g of boric acid, 2 g of potassium permanganate and ash (not less than a glass by volume). In this case, both a solution of drugs and a suspension of ash in water with an extract of potassium compounds are obtained.
In addition, ready-made mixtures can be used. For strawberries, the preparation "Ovyaz" is good, specially designed for feeding plants during the period of flowering and fruit formation. Not bad are also "Gummi" and "Baikal M1" - these are biological products designed for complex plant support.
You can also use home remedies - infusions of chicken manure (a source of nitrogen) and ash (a source of potassium). They are prepared like this:
- 2.5 kg of chicken manure is poured with a bucket of water and left for a day in a warm place, stirring from time to time. Then the liquid is filtered off, the undissolved droppings are thrown onto the compost heap, and the concentrated mixture diluted with clean water in a ratio of 1:20 and used for irrigation (about 0.5 liters of the mixture per 1 strawberry bush).
- A glass (as much as possible) of wood ash is poured into 1 liter of boiling water, stirred and left to cool. The ready-made infusion is used for watering strawberries - in the same amount as for droppings.
When working with both dung and ash infusions, you need to use a watering can without a spray, so that the solution does not get on the leaves and burn them. If you want to use these formulations for foliar feeding, they must be diluted at least three times.
Foliar dressing
Although most of the nutrients are obtained from the roots, plants can also assimilate them through the leaves and stems. Strawberries are no exception.
For foliar feeding of this culture, the following solutions are used (per 10 liters of water):
- boric acid - 10 g;
- potassium sulfate - 20 g;
- potassium nitrate - 10-12 g.
Also from the factory formulations, you can use the complexes "Rubin", "Hera" or similar. The method of administration and dosage is indicated by the manufacturer in the instructions for the drug.
From home remedies, nettle tincture is good for spraying. It is prepared like this:
- Fresh nettles are finely chopped and placed in a container.
- It is poured with 10 liters of water with a temperature of about 60-65 ° C.
- Withstand for 1-2 days.
- They are filtering. The nettle is thrown onto the compost heap, and the liquid is diluted 1:10 and used for spraying.
Finally, yeast is believed to be good for strawberries. To do this, pour a bag of dry culinary yeast with warm water, add 2 tablespoons of sugar, dilute with clean water to a volume of 10 liters. Then the mixture is kept in a warm place for 2-3 hours, after which it is ready for use.
