Epoxy paints are based on epoxy resins. Also in paints and varnishes, they include a resin hardener, pigments that give paints different shades.

Types of epoxies for metal

The paint can be of 3 types:

1. In aerosol cans.

Such mixtures are used for painting passenger cars or household metal products (for example, refrigerators). They have excellent resistance to mechanical stress. After application, a durable shiny film is obtained.

2. Powder paints.

They are used in industry. The coating is very durable and reliable. To apply a paint and varnish product, high temperatures are needed, because of this, such paints are practically not used at home.

3. 2-component epoxy paints.

Epoxy resin cures at room temperature. As a result, the film is not as strong as when powder paints are used at high temperatures, but it still has good protective characteristics.

For example, the primer is Epostat enamel.

After drying, the painted surface is very resistant to chemical compounds, therefore the paint and varnish material can be used in the gas and petrochemical industries.

This is at the same time:

  • soil that protects against rust;
  • rust converter;
  • paint that is resistant to wear and tear.

Advantages:

  • dries up in 4 hours;
  • the painted object is operated at a temperature of -120... + 40 degrees;
  • the film is resistant to gasoline and oils, fresh and salt water;
  • the surface acquires maximum strength after a week;
  • it is smooth, semi-glossy.

When applying a layer with a thickness of 80-100 microns, 160-200 g are used per square meter of surface.

Advantages of two-component metal paint:

  • the coating is very durable;
  • elastic;
  • moisture resistant;
  • to mechanical stress;
  • does not burn;
  • resistant to aggressive environments;
  • has excellent adhesion to all metal substrates.

The mixture is used as waterproofing. The film is resistant to alkalis, acids, salts, fuels and lubricants. It stretches from mechanical stress, but does not crack. Then it takes on its original form. Since the coating does not burn, the electrotechnical parts are painted with the composition.

Flaws:

  • the film changes color from direct sunlight;
  • it takes a long time until it becomes as strong as possible.

Scope of use

The composition is used to paint parts of passenger cars, radiators, metal products in a room with increased humidity. The mixture is used to paint containers for storing fuel and oil. It is used as a primer when applied to metal.
