A commander who has not lost a single battle. This is exactly what they say about Alexander Vasilievich Suvorov. Man is progressive in all respects, especially by the standards of the 18th century. However, today we are not talking about the military tricks of the commander and not about his achievements, but about how, in general, Suvorov managed to force the Russian army to be the fastest in Europe.

The human body is capable of many things, especially when you know how to properly direct it. For the latter, one should study a lot and read the right books. And of course, train a lot. Alexander Vasilyevich read a lot, including the works of ancient authors preserved in the world heritage. Primarily Roman. It was from the Roman history that Suvorov got the idea of long and fast pedestrian crossings, which the Romans began to practice from the time of their own "Suvorov" - Gaius Maria. The latter eased the baggage as much as possible, shifting a significant part of the load onto the shoulders of the soldiers, and also began to pay increased attention to marching training. Because of this, the Romans even began to derisively call their own legionnaires "mules Maria".

Alexander Vasilyevich liked the idea: the lightest wagon train, carrying only the essentials, increased attention to the marching training of soldiers, work on discipline and proper nutrition. The last two points in the Suvorov army were especially important. Fortunately, from the very dawn of his career, the commander understood perfectly how to earn authority among his subordinates - by personal example. Suvorov, like no one else, realized the meaning of the statement: the soldier should not be pitied, the soldier should be protected.

At the same time, Alexander Vasilyevich went further and removed the concern of carrying food from the soldiers' shoulders. Moreover, he actually invented the field kitchen, which was not supposed to follow the army on a campaign, but in front of the army. As a result, it turned out that in front of the foot troops there was a rearguard, which was engaged in reconnaissance and preparation of places for a halt. A field kitchen followed him with a small wagon train. Then Suvorov's troops marched. And only at the very end did the wagon train catch up with the army.

For the 18th century, this scheme turned out to be innovative, thanks to which incredible results were achieved in the field of army speed. The troops did not waste time setting up the camp and preparing food and could immediately rest during the halt. Halts were of two types: "fast" - about 1 hour and "solid" - from 3 to 4 hours. However, all this was used only in a forced march in a combat situation. The rest of the time, Suvorov's army moved at normal speed and long halts. As a result, when a daily march of 25-30 km was considered normal for the European army, a march of 50-60 km was considered normal for the Suvorov army. At the same time, in extreme situations, Suvorov managed to squeeze out 80-90 km, and several times even 100-110 km per day. That by the standards of the XVIII century and all the phenomenal numbers for the infantry troops.

But the most important thing is that even after extreme night marches, the army under the command of Alexander Vasilyevich repeatedly entered battles on the move and won victories at the same time, being tired. Strong, however, were people ...
