A Soviet naval dagger - surely every person has seen this at least once in his life. For some people, they can even lie at home, inherited from some ancestor, for example, a great-grandfather who served in the navy. This raises a logical question: is it generally legal to keep a "grandfather's" dagger at home? Is it a weapon and if so, what should be done in order not to earn unnecessary problems on your neck?
A dagger, a saber, a bayonet-knife, and even a broadsword - it doesn't matter what you inherited from your ancestor. Most likely, it will be a melee weapon in accordance with the current Russian legislation. And if the ancestor was a military, for example, a naval officer, then the inherited dagger will be recognized as a combat melee weapon at all, which makes the responsibility for its illegal use heavier. Whether a piercing-cutting object is a melee weapon is determined according to the current GOSTs, including with the involvement of state expertise.
It should be remembered that you cannot just take and "inherit" weapons. In Russia, illegal storage, including cold steel, its carrying or production is at least an administrative article. At the same time, none of the citizens in this case is insured against the fact that the case for the possession of a grandfather's dirk will ultimately not turn from an administrative to a criminal one. In simple terms: it is simply impossible to keep edged weapons by inheritance.
If you really want to keep the weapon of your ancestor, you will have to get documents for it. This is done through a special state procedure, which is carried out in the internal affairs bodies. First, the item of weapons will have to be handed over, after which it will be necessary to declare ownership of it. Documents for weapons, which should have been with the ancestor, will help the case very much. If the dagger or knife is a premium, then the corresponding papers should also go to them. Getting title without them will be much more difficult. In this case, the weapon can simply be confiscated. Once in such a situation, grandfather's "cleaver" can still be returned, but it will be impossible to do without a court.
