On your site, in the country or in the garage, sooner or later you will have to deal with welding of loops. This is not as easy as it might seem. Indeed, on a pair of small hinges, the gate leaf or door leaf to a utility room or other room is held and moved.
So you need to weld the hinges really well. So that they do not come off at some moment and the gate or door does not collapse, and even worse, does not crash on you or another person.
Take a look at this photo. Most beginners weld hinges this way. A thicker metal plate is welded to each loop segment. And then this plate is welded to the sheet of metal with which it is sheathed, that is, the sheet is welded to the frame of the gate sash.
If this sheet of metal is at least 3 millimeters thick, then everything is fine, you can safely weld just like that to a sheet of metal. But if this sheet of metal is thinner, as usually happens, then this welding of hinges and thin metal may simply not withstand such a load-leaf of the gate. And over time, and maybe very quickly, this welding will vomit. And you just need to do just such a trick.
In the place where the hinge plate is welded to the metal sheet, draw a pencil or marker around the contour of the plate. We drill holes in the sheet metal in the place of this contour, we drill to the frame of the gate or door.
Then, through these holes, we simply weld the base and sheet metal. We clean the welding points flush with the metal sheet. Now you can safely weld the hinge plate to this place.
That's all, this is an old trick of experienced welders. Now we do not weld the hinges to a small section of thin sheet metal, but we can say directly to the very base. But visually, everything remains as if it was welded to the sheet. Such a connection of hinges and gates or doors made of metal will never tear off and will serve for a long time.
