Heating tap Zanussi SmartTap Fresh

  • Jul 31, 2021

Many models of taps with built-in instantaneous water heaters have appeared on the market. I studied the Zanussi SmartTap Fresh model, which is sold in Leroy Merlin for 1690 rubles.

The rated power of the heater is 3.3 kW, so the wiring and socket must be able to withstand 14 amps. Grounding is required.

It is very simple to install the faucet, and the wire can pass both above and below the sink (in the first case, a 20 mm hole is enough, in the second, standard 32-35 mm). The plug in the kit specially comes separately so that the wire can be threaded through a narrow hole, and then connect the plug. Wire length 85 cm.

During the test, the mains voltage was about 215 V, while the power of the heater was about 3 kW.

The device valve has a central position (off) and can be turned up and down. When turned down, the heater does not turn on, when turned up, it turns on, while an indicator on the case lights up.

The water pressure is regulated by the angle of rotation of the tap.

After switching on, water heating begins to be felt after 5 seconds, hot water begins to pour only 10 seconds after switching on.

But this is not the main problem. The main thing is that the temperature is regulated only by the pressure of water and the slightest change in it leads to the fact that the water is either too cold or burns the hands. This will be a problem with a stable water pressure in the water supply (you need to turn the tap a very small angle in order to "catch" a comfortable temperature), and when using in a country house with a water supply system with a hydraulic accumulator (the pressure gradually drops as water flows from the accumulator and increases sharply when the pump is turned on) will become solid torment.

I made a video in which I showed how fast the water heats up when the tap is turned on and at what water flow its temperature is comfortable.

At first glance, it seems that a faucet with a built-in flow heater is a simple, cheap and convenient solution, but in my opinion it should be considered only as a compromise. It is much more comfortable to use a small storage water heater for washing dishes in the country (10 liters is quite enough).
