Everyone, whose childhood was in the 90s, probably watched the action movie with Sylvester Stallone "Rambo 3". In this episode, John went on a business trip to Afghanistan, where he faced the soldiers of the Soviet Army and representatives of the "evil KGB"! However, we are not interested in the plot of the film, but in the weapon that flashed in the hands of the hero Stallone - some very strange Kalashnikov assault rifle. Is he real or is this just another piece of work from Hollywood props?
You can list the Hollywood films, where Russian and Soviet characters are presented as positive non-stereotypical heroes... Are there any such characters at all? If we list films openly anti-Soviet, anti-Russian, filled with cranberries, a common notebook is not enough: "The Beast", The Hunt for "Red October "," Red Nightingale "," Red Dawn "," Spy Bridge "," Charlie Wilson's War "in general they are not in number, you can almost continue endlessly. But there is one film that is a real monument to the Hollywood cranberry - this is "Rambo 3".
In "justifying" Hollywood, one can only note that our films do exactly the same. Even in the excellent "War" Balabanov, the English character was presented as a rag and a bad man, and in much less good and even controversial, but still worthy of attention "Brother 2", the Americans are completely represented by one big caricature.
But back to "Rambo 3". There is one very strange Kalashnikov assault rifle that appears in the hands of the protagonist. Knowing about the love of Hollywood props masters for the consciousness of their own fake weapons, one could assume that the machine gun in John's hands is fictional. But in reality he is real.
Domestic AK has always been equipped with Soviet-made GP-25 grenade launchers. The cinematic AK has a Western-made M203 grenade launcher under its barrel. Of course, it can be logical to assume that the props masters simply did not find or could not make the GP-25. But everything is much simpler. The Americans really attached their own grenade launcher. Apparently they decided not to bother. Moreover, if you look closely at the characters of Soviet soldiers, you can see in their hands quite "brace" AKs, on which the American XM148 grenade launchers from the Vietnam War were installed.
In the hands of John Rambo, it is not the Soviet Kalashnikov assault rifle, but its East German licensed copy - Mpi-AKS-74NK chambered for 5.45x39 mm. Own AKs have been produced in Germany since 1958. They did not differ so much from the Soviet ones. As a rule, they had other butts, pencil cases and there were no Soviet-type ramrods. Mpi was produced until 1990, until their production was closed as a result of the unification of West and East Germany.

The lower forend of the German copy of the AK in the film "Rambo 3" is missing due to the fact that an American grenade launcher for a Soviet machine gun was not possible without this kind of "Tuning". True, there are serious concerns that it will no longer be possible to use both the grenade launcher and the machine gun after this. In any case, with a sufficient degree of efficiency.
