Late blight - a fungal disease that most often affects tomatoes. If it is started, the gardener loses up to 70% of the crop. In our article, we will consider the fastest ways to treat and prevent the disease.

Causes of late blight
The source of phytophthora is potatoes, which are more often attacked by fungi than tomatoes, as well as infected and unharvested potato and tomato tops. All aerial parts of the plant are affected, rot appears on the fruits, and the shape of the tomatoes themselves is disfigured.
On the open ground, the following factors contribute to the spread of late blight:
- high humidity;
- heavy fog and dew;
- dense seedlings;
- placement of beds in lowlands;
- temperature fluctuations;
- poor weeding.
In greenhouses, tomatoes seem to be protected, but phytophthora can also be brought here:
- by the wind;
- through the soil;
- with seedlings.
For the treatment of late blight and its prevention, organic mixtures, mineral fertilizers are used, which we will consider below.
Prophylaxis
The best prevention method is spraying. For this, the following means are used.
- Copper sulfate solution 3%. Overdose leads to plant burns.
- Iodine improves photosynthesis and helps with the first symptoms of late blight. It should be sprayed every 10 days: this is how the immunity of tomatoes increases and the yield improves.
- Fungicides should be applied at dawn or after sunset so that chemical reactions to light do not cause burns. Spraying is carried out 1 time in 2 weeks, but in the rainy season it is done 1-2 times a week.
- A special serum, when mixed with water in equal proportions, creates a protective film on tomatoes. Its beneficial bacteria help primarily the leaves, but in the end, the protective properties extend to the entire plant as a whole.
Treatment
Late blight can be treated with both special drugs and folk remedies.
Drugs
-
"Fitosporin-M"it is applied at night or in cloudy but not rainy weather.
-
"Antracol"non-toxic drug with a duration of up to 2 weeks.
-
"Quadris"spraying is carried out in 2 procedures with an interval of 10 days.
-
"Baikal EM"used for spraying and watering.
-
"Trichodermin"in addition to protection, it improves the composition of the soil.

Also, coniferous branches, yeast mixtures and Bordeaux liquid can be used against late blight.
Important! It is recommended to alternate mixtures and processing methods for the most effective results.
