Pop art originated in the 50s and 60s of the last century in Great Britain. First of all, bold experiments touched the fine arts, and later the sphere of interior design.

This style is suitable for people who cannot live without bright colors and love to surprise. Many are sure that his imminent rebirth is coming. Until then, the designer Olga Shapovalova told about the characteristic features of pop art in the interior.

Color spectrum

An indispensable attribute of pop art is a riot of colors. Bright colors contrast with each other, because of which it can even ripple in the eyes, neon is welcome. In the past, this also applied to the walls, only the floor and ceiling were left light.

Today, interiors with white or gray walls or wallpaper with small patterns, against which bright furniture and accessories are displayed, look more attractive.

Finishes and materials

Pop art certainly requires gloss - the more, the better. Ceilings, cabinet fronts and countertops can be glossy. In addition, this aesthetic is characterized by the use of plastic. It is worth paying attention to products made from recycled materials, they are considered physiological.

Also, glass may be present in pop art interiors. It is better to use a laminate or self-leveling floor as a floor covering. If the task is to make an accent, a designer carpet will do.

Furniture

Besides color, shape is important for furniture in pop art. These can be sofas in the form of huge lips, intricate coffee tables and "puffy" armchairs. It is worth choosing rounded models with a minimum number of corners.

A drawing on the upholstery or an unusual texture, such as leather or velvet, can draw attention. If the upholstered furniture is monochromatic, it can be supplemented with decorative pillows with a stylized pattern.

Decor

Decorative details for pop art are extremely important. Often times, the space looks like a small museum where you want to see everything. Accessories should be bright and colorful and must attract attention.

For decor, pop art portraits of celebrities, clippings from magazines and newspapers, posters from comics or cartoons, graffiti and colored glass vases are suitable.

Lighting

Lamps of futuristic shapes and colors will best fit into the style of pop art. The priority is clear geometry, and not ornate outlines and candelabra. Hand-made products, for example, a chandelier made of plastic bottles or vinyl records, are held in special esteem.

Suspensions in the form of animals will also look unusual. The light itself should be soft and comfortable, and colored LED lamps can be responsible for the mood.

Textile

Pop art textiles are a significant factor. Most often there are soft carpets with bright patterns and decorative pillows, sometimes curtains or roll-up curtains.

In the past, synthetic materials were often used - polyester, viscose, taffeta, but today designers are increasingly using natural cotton and silk. Sometimes the same fabric is used for window decoration and furniture upholstery. This technique is considered an invention of pop art.
