Let's talk about the most useful power tool for household metal work. This is of course a grinder, this tool is correctly called an angle grinder. But everyone in the conversation is called only so-Bulgarian, we will not deviate from the generally accepted terms that everyone understands.
There are a great many brands of cutting machines, we will not argue here which brand is better, more reliable. Everyone has their own experience, usually the masters share this information in the comments, be sure to look at it after reading the article.
And let's talk about the diameter of the cutting wheel. In the photo above, we see that 5 different diameters of cutting and grinding wheels of different thicknesses are accepted for grinders.
I started my acquaintance with this tool about 17 years ago with the largest grinder on a 230 disc. It was at work, got a job as a welder at an agricultural enterprise.
The tool is heavy, you need experience and skill for safe and comfortable work. Thank God, while adjusting to the instrument, nothing bad happened. It only happened to clamp the disc.
Very quickly I realized how great it is to have such a tool at home. I also bought a grinder for the house and garage for a large disc-230 diameter. By that time, I already had experience with the tool, so any work with metal at home was quite comfortable.
Then I bought another grinder - this was a few years after 230 grinders. And I bought it following the purchase of a welding machine. It was a small 125 disc grinder. I bought it mainly for grinding welds and burrs on metal after cutting with a large grinder.
Then he began to use a small grinder not only for grinding, but also for cutting metal. After a big hard one, I was amazed at the convenience of working with a 125 grinder.
Small dimensions of the tool - you can get close to any hard-to-reach place for cutting, well, almost anywhere!
Light weight - in fact, you can cut metal for hours and you will not get particularly tired of working with a large grinder.
Although this is not possible, but everyone does it - the ability to work with a tool with one hand. You hold the second part if it is small and not heavy. You can't cut like that. especially without much experience, it is better to fix the part and hold the tool with both hands. But we do not always adhere to these rules.
In short, the efficiency when working with a small grinder on a 125 disc for cutting and grinding is very high.
If you summarize the article with a retelling of my experience of working with different grinders, then my advice is this.
Ideally, if finances allow and a lot of work is required with metal of different thicknesses and dimensions, then it is better to have 2 grinders for 230 and 125 discs.
Use a large grinder to cut something voluminous and thick-walled. Also suitable for cutting in concrete, cutting bricks - naturally with special discs.
For all other work, a 125 disc grinder is enough for your eyes. Cut or grind metal without getting tired for a long time.
I tried to work with other disk diameters. Not impressed, the diameter of the disc is too small, then it will still be heavier than a 125 grinder, uncomfortable. So 230 + 125 = perfect set!
