If the Germans really know how to do something better than everyone else on planet Earth, it is to design frankly strange machines. This applies not only to land technology, but also to aircraft. So, shortly before the outbreak of World War II, such an aircraft with a very strange layout was designed in Germany. Many are probably already interested to know: what kind of car is it and why was it needed?

In 1937, the command of the Luftwaffe wanted to get a new "toy" at its disposal. Reich military aviators thought that it would be nice to have such a multifunctional aircraft that could be a bomber, an attack aircraft, a reconnaissance aircraft and even a smokescreen designer. Several companies took part in the competition for the creation of the new aircraft, but the most interesting project was presented by Blohm + Voss.

The main feature of the Blom und Foss machine was its asymmetrical layout. The panoramic cockpit was moved to the wing so that the propeller did not block the pilot's view. This solution was proposed by the designer in response to the requirements of the Luftwaffe that the aircraft should be single-engine, with a large glazing area, and the crew of the car should not exceed 3 people.

In 1937 a wooden frame was built. The first prototype of the car, the BV 141, was ready by the summer of 1938. The aircraft was equipped with the then advanced BMW 323 A engine with a return of 1,000 horsepower. Great efforts were made by the designers in order to achieve perfect balancing of the machine, to ensure the stability of its flight and precision of maneuver. Starting with the second prototype, 4 machine guns were installed on the plane. The third prototype received a less powerful engine and a fuselage extended to 12.15 meters. The wingspan was 15.35 meters. Factory tests were completed by April 1939.

The new car was shown to the top leadership of Germany, including Adolf Hitler. Immediately after that, an order was prepared for 500 BV.141A-0 aircraft. At the same time, army tests began, in which the novelty was supposed to try itself in throwing bombs. It was only during the next round of tests that it turned out that the bold development of German industrialists in real conditions is faced with a huge number of various troubles. As a result, it was decided to curtail the expensive project and abandon the idea of developing aircraft with an asymmetric design.
