The small area does not allow to realize all the desired ideas, you have to act within a rigid framework. However, this does not mean that it will not be possible to organize a comfortable space.
Designer Alexandra Dashkevich told what techniques will help in arranging a microstudio with an area of only about 20 m².
6. Ceiling storage
In a small space, it is important to use the entire vertical of the room to fit everything you need. It is better to invest and make an individual product for the height of the wall and the desired width than to put several low objects next to each other, thereby losing storage space under the ceiling.
To make the studio look harmonious, it is worth choosing built-in furniture to match the walls, some kind of unobtrusive shade, and brighter colors can be applied using small items - chairs, lamps, textiles.
5. Furniture transformer
In a small studio, you always have to choose between a full bed and a sofa. What if you don't have to choose? A structure will come to the rescue, into which both the sofa and the bed are already built. To get ready for bed, simply remove the cushions from the sofa and activate the lifting mechanism.
Some dining tables can also be transformed to save space. You can consider folding models, countertops hidden in a kitchen set, or folding coffee tables. Chairs also should not be massive, it is better to choose ones that are easy to fold or put on top of each other.
4. Kitchenette
Even those who like to cook, one way or another, will have to sacrifice something in the arrangement of the kitchen in order to accommodate other necessary areas. The kitchen in the studio of 20 m² must be accompanied by the "mini" prefix.
Otherwise, the room runs the risk of looking cluttered. You should choose a multi-purpose technique, for example, an oven with a microwave function or a dishwasher that can be hidden under the sink. Also look out for taps with two spouts. This will eliminate the need to make a cutout for the filter faucet and will save you from unnecessary visual noise.
3. Small lamps
In a small apartment, it is better to avoid massive chandeliers and low hanging lamps.
Large lighting fixtures will "eat up" the space, as a result, the apartment will look even smaller than it actually is. It is better to select floor lamps only on a thin support. But it would be more correct to give preference to wall sconces as additional light sources.
2. Moderate decor
You should be extremely careful with the decor in the studio. Firstly, it must be proportionate to the room, so it is better to immediately abandon large-format paintings or voluminous vases.
In order not to overload the space, it is better to choose laconic items that will complement the interior, and not draw all attention to yourself.
1. Competent zoning
In order to zone the space, in no case should you build blind partitions from drywall. This will make the apartment look like a set of isolated closets. The separation should be unobtrusive: you can use a carpet or different wall finishes, but you should not crush the floor.
If the question stands squarely, it is recommended to consider translucent slatted partitions or a podium. But it can be problematic to implement the second idea if the studio has the form of a "trailer" with access to the loggia.
