Diseases and their treatment

Particular attention should be paid to such diseases:

  1. Powdery mildew. It is a very common gooseberry disease. It can not only worsen the quality of the crop, but also lead to the death of the plant if left untreated. Among the first signs of the disease, one can distinguish the appearance of a whitish coating on the leaves, branches and berries. Gradually, this plaque becomes dark, and the infected shoots are bent. The fruits crack and dry out. Copper sulfate is used to combat powdery mildew. You can also use a solution of laundry soap and soda ash. For a bucket of water, you need to take 50 g of soda and 40 g of soap.

  2. Anthracnose. It is also a fairly common disease that leads to wilting of leaves and weakening of the plant. It appears in the form of small brown spots, which eventually merge with each other. Brown ulcers appear on the branches and fruits. Usually, a solution of Bordeaux mixture or copper sulfate is used to combat the disease.
  3. Goblet rust. Causes leaves and fruits to fall off. It first appears as reddish spots on the leaves with black dots. On the underside of the leaf plate and berries, yellowish, goblet-shaped pads are quickly formed. First, the affected bushes must be sprayed with 3% Bordeaux liquid. Two weeks later, the procedure is repeated, but the concentration should already be 1%.
  4. White spot. The disease can affect various horticultural crops. It causes small whitish spots on the leaves. This is a fungal disease. Therefore, it is necessary to cut and burn all affected leaves. After that, the plants are sprayed with a 1% solution of Bordeaux liquid.
  5. Mosaic. This is a viral disease that is manifested by the appearance of a yellow pattern on the leaves. In this case, the plant stops developing. Infected bushes must be dug up and burned outside the site so that the disease does not spread to other bushes.
  6. Scab. It leads to the appearance of brown spots on branches, ovaries and leaves, as well as to the appearance of growths on the fruits. For treatment, use the biological drug "Fitosporin-M".

Gooseberry pests

In addition to diseases, pests also cause a lot of trouble for gardeners:

  1. Gooseberry moth. Its larvae feed on the pulp and seeds of the fruit. To fight you need to take drugs "Lepidocid", "Gomelin", "Fufanon" or "Karbofos".
  2. Shoot aphid. Slows down the growth of the plant, as it feeds on its juice. When this pest appears, you need to use the "Decis" or "Iskra" agent.
  3. Gooseberry sawfly. Lays eggs on the leaves of the plant. The emerging caterpillars can destroy all the foliage in a few days. Fitoverm, Fufanon, Iskra, Karbofos are used to fight.

If you take care of your garden and implement timely prevention, diseases and pests will not cause problems. And you can enjoy a high-quality and large harvest of gooseberries.
